I love them! They were one of the first bands that introduced me to metal music. Them and Blind Guardian. But ya, I have all their albums including an LP and a single or two. I got into them after hearing "Sleeping Sun" in a NewGrounds flash video about 5 years ago.

As far of their new stuff, I don't like it much either but I do like the songs where it's just Marco singing. IMO, they should just drop annette and just have him sing the songs. The Islander, Reach (better version of Amaranth), and While You're Lips Are Still Red are the best songs released since Tarja's departure and none feature Annette singing. I do like the song "The Escapist" though. Annette sang that and it was pretty good. Has a very "Old Nightwish" feel in the music. Would have been better with Tarja but oh well.

But anyway, yeah, without Tarja, it pretty much lost what drew me into the band in the first place. And Tarja's solo stuff is kind of blah... the voice is there but the music is meh. Although I did like this called "Leaving You for Me" where she was a guest singer.

Aaaaaaaaaaah! I love Nightwish! Most people diss me for it (and liking other European artists :D). Nemo my name forevermore!
Really? Nightwish Is a very successful band. Maybe your hanging around the death and black metal crowd. Or thrash. The more agression oriented music. I guess some people are just too close minded.
Hey I could understand if they were dissing you for listening to nickleback though. Hehehe

I don't mention Nightwish around people who are generally metal heads cause, lets face it, when you think metal, the type like Nightwish or such are hardly what comes to mind. People who are only used to listening to stuff on the radio though I don't mind bringing them up. To them, they seem really hard :p

Any other metal head though I don't even bother bringing them up. They just aren't hard enough for most metal heads to really care. Nightwish has become pretty popular with the teen rock and goth/emo crowd who were fans of Evanescence or something so people give Nightwish a lot of flack for being associated with that crowd. Nightwish IMO is like a stepping stone for getting into metal. Easy listening still while having a lot of very metal elements. That's how I did it. I only liked the ballads from Blind Guardian and the soft songs from Nightwish and after constantly listening to their albums and checking out similar bands or whatever, I built up to harder stuff. I like all types of metal pretty much now.

I like nightwish because of their operatic style. They are symphonic metal but still metal. They just take a different approach to metal compared to a lot of other bands.
The bands that really got me into metal were Iron Maiden and Metallica. Now I hardly ever listen to Metallica. Maiden are still number 1 though.
Up The Irons!!

Funny enough that's not the case. I have only one friend who's a metal-head (I'm not by the way) and he's 'meh' with them.
Another friend is a fan (he introduced me to them)
It's just a lot of my friends think they are too cliched/weird/too similar to 'insert band name here'. But they also say that about Nina Hagen and H.I.M (my metal-head friend seriously pays me out for liking them ^_^). The only logical explanation I can give to their opinion is that Nightwish are European and, in their minds, European=try-hard weirdos .

Urgh, Nickelback! I like two of their songs (Saving Me and This Is How) but other than that hand me the bucket.

Yeah some people just hate the Europian bands for some reason. When it comes to metalheads hating on them I think it's usually due to the keyboards. Well, those people suck! Lol...That's the only logical explanation.

Nightwish is my favorite band. I am passionately in love with them. I actually just finished listening to the amazing End of an Era album. I love all of their albums, but Dark Passion Play is my favorite. Ghost Love Score, The Poet and the Pendulum and Meadows of Heaven are among my favorite songs ever. There are so many others I could name as well like Last of the Wilds, Creek Mary's Blood, Elvenpath, Wishmaster, Ever Dream, Dark Chest of Wonders, Bless the Child, Nemo, Amaranth. Yeah I love them a lot.

Metal heads hating metal bands from Europe!!!!?!?!?! how..not correct :p some of the best metal bands in the world actually come from Europe..especially Black Metal, Death Metal, Melodic Metal, and Power Metal :)

European heavy metal influenced American heavy metal a lot. Especially where it pertains to The New Wave Of British Heavy Metal.

^HB is great. I'm glad that their music is gaining more recognition.

As for Nightwish, they're easily my all-time favourite band. I don't listen to them much nowadays, but I think I needed a bit of a break from them. Even though I agree that they are a metal band, I also agree that they are a great stepping stone into harder metal, since most of their stuff isn't as heavy as "standard" metal is.

I love all of Nightwish's material, but my favourite album of theirs is undoubtedly Century Child. That entire album is amazing.
