• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I am sorry you are suffering this, it is bad enough being assaulted, but the nightly repetition of that fear is very wearing.
I used to have continual nightmares and flashbacks, and tried many things to stop them.
Reading psalms and then listening to relaxing music before sleep helped a little, but didn't entirely solve the problem.
The thing that broke the pattern was a couple of sessions of EMDR therapy... which sounded like a very odd idea, but really did make a difference.
I still have occasional nightmares, but they are only occasional, and I am no longer afraid of going to sleep.

I don't know whether this would work for you, but it is worth a try
Hope you find a solution soon
If you need to talk , PM me any time.

Your nightmares are most likely associated with past events that remain in memory but have not yet been adequately processed. Generally they diminish is frequency and intensity as past events are dealt with constructively.

What I think Johnnz means is therapy where you and someone you trust work through the assault, the feelings, and you learn coping methods and learn how to go to sleep again. Johnnz is one of the smartest guys on here, but sometimes he needs to unpack stuff for us mere mortals or others can do it too.

Finding a suitable person who you feel comfortable with will be so helpful. Meantime, don't overlook modern communications. There are people here who have useful advice and shared experiences they can pass on. Use the PM function.

I have corresponded with people, some short term, others much longer, and that has been very worthwhile. Usually, that was by email after an initial contact. More recently I have used Skype for chatting, conversations, and sometimes direct video. Talking and video add another dimension and can be very much like direct counselling. The only reservations I have about 'remote' advice is that there is not the direct support (eg a shoulder to cry on) that is there when you are with someone. That support can be very helpful when some feelings suddenly come into focus again.

We (my wife and I) currently have a woman on her fourth visit to us from Australia who first made contact through this Forum. Another will be here next month for a couple of weeks for her second visit to us.

So, if you can find someone closer to you that you are comfortable with (similar time zones help!) then you might want to try corresponding. It can work. Feeling alone is not a good thing when there are real issues to face. Technology can be helpful and bridge a gap.

Bless you

What I do for nightmares is take medication that is for PTSD from my psychiatrist. I don't know if you get counseling or medical helpl but it helps me. It also helps me to read a lot of the threads here and see how others are getting help. God bless.

""Does anyone else have nightmares all the time?""

I was taught that when the enemy attacks us in our sleep then we need to pray the Blood of Jesus on our pillow every night before we go to sleep. One way or the other we need to learn how to turn to God to protect and shelter us. Psalm 34 is good to read: "7 The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them." If we do our part, like giving thanks and praise onto God, then we can be sure He will do His part of the promise. The Bible is filled with promises that are there ready for us to claim. It is difficult to understand how we can give thanks for all things. But then we realize that God can cause good to come out of anything and everything.

"In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." KJV 1 Thes 5:18
