My family's called me Bud since the very beginning. Only people outside of my family who have called me that are my baseball teammates and coaches.

For some reason a few guys at work in the Dr. Pepper plant all had different names for me when I still worked with them on second shift. Ill Will, Willie Style, and Big Will. These are all gangster-sounding names, so naturally (and I am not racial stereotyping maliciously here, mind you) all three of the people who have given me these names are black. ^-^

I've never had a nickname that stuck. Most of them included either my first or last name. So they weren't usually shortened - but lengthened.
I liked it when in college/university my professors would call me by my last name rather than my first. I guess it's like you are a representation of your family in a way. One of them would pronounce my last name in as strange of an accent as he could think of to be funny. But all the other students in the class were guys so he picked on them in other ways.
