My mom is a second grade teacher. She has a huge sign up in her room that says "Nice Matters".
And it does, "Niceness" is sadly a very underrated quality it seems :(
A Little niceness goes a long way, when people are nice, they make other people happy and joyful, and they in turn make others happy and joyful.
Please know that I'm not trying to accuse ANYONE of being "not nice", I myself often forget to or choose not be nice more than I'd like to admit too :( I'm just putting it out there, that maybe we can keep in mind how much a little "niceness" can do. Let's not sneer in the face of "niceness" nor de-value the importance of simply being nice.
The changes around CF have made a lot of us grumpy and upset, and that's certainly justifiable, but maybe we can try a little extra hard to be nice? Just putting it out there.
A little kindness goes a long way.
St. Paul said that out of Faith, Hope and Charity, Charity is the greatest virtue. Jesus said to treat people how we want to be treated.
Nice matters.

Being nice to others goes along way.
Sometimes it can be hard when people stomp all over your attempts to be kind.
But you are right, things around here have made me grumpy and I have snapped, sometimes it can be so hard not to fight back when you feel you are being pushed to your limit and innocents can get in the way.

It's not right.

I'm from the Midwest. "Nice" is practically considered one of the four cardinal virtues up here.

I've always felt that it was a rather insipid adjective. There's often an implied "but" after it, as in, "She's really nice, but..."

A lot of times, "nice" seems to be secret code for "has no balls." :D

I'd rather be kind. Or generous. Or maybe even sunny. But "nice"? Nah.

I think good theology goes farther, not unorthodox heresy.

Paul seemed to think that niceness (aka kindness) was rather important, so much so that he referred to it as one of the fruits of the Spirit:
Gal 5:22-23 -- But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

1Ti 4:7But reject those myths 1 fit only for the godless and gullible, 2 and train yourself for godliness.
Tit 2:12It trains us 1 to reject godless ways 2 and worldly desires and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age,
Heb 12:16And see to it that no one becomes 1 an immoral or godless person like Esau, who sold his own birthright for a single meal. 2

What the heck does this have to do with whether or not kindness matters? Sorry, you lost me.

Can we please keep this thread a place to simply be nice to one another instead of using it to argue the value of kindness? There are plenty of places on CF to argue, I'd like to request that this be a thread just for being nice. Please?

Sorry :( I honestly didn't think that this was even a matter of disagreement among Christians.

My point is that BELIEFS matter more. Your verse relating to "niceness" is out of context.

Really? Doesn't James say our deeds say more about our faith then just saying we believe the right things? For instance:
James 3: 17-18 said:
17But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
18And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.
Because sometimes people forget in the haste to "be right" that being kind is something Jesus was known for.
