  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

There are tons of goof proof film SLRs on the market at very low prices. If you want to start with film, take a serious look at the Nikon N80. They're going for roughly $175 in mint condition on Ebay. A 50mm lens will cost you roughly $90 in mint condition, and you may need a flash since the pop up flash on the camera doesn't do very much. Look at a SB-600 flash unit. The flash unit can wait. Anyway, this is a great starter kit.

Otherwise, you may want to look at going digital from the beginning. The Nikon D70 and new D50, and Canon EOS cameras, are great starter setups, but you are probably going to spend $800-$1100 to get into a digital kit.

You can also consider a digital point and shoot. Lots of good ones out there. Canon's G series is very good, as is the Fuji S20, S5000, and S7000 (I personally really like the Fuji S20 becasue it shoots native black & white images that are phenomenal).

There are also lots of older manual focus film cameras on the market. But keep in mind that the lenses and accessories you purchase will probably not be usable on a modern digital SLR if you eventually decide to go that route. But these cameras are great learning tools and they're very inexpensive right now. I see whole kits going on Ebay for under $200.

You're going to need to excuse my professional slant on a lot of these cameras. I'm sure there are lots of other affordable cameras available for very reasonable prices. If you are one of those folks that gets bit hard by the photography bug, you're going to want to start off with decent equipment that will last you for many years.

Digital is just as good if not clearly better than 35mm film. Don't fall into the line of thinking that digital is inferior! Use whatever medium you feel comfortable with.

Yeah, I plan to use film, since well. Digital isnt as good (as much as I love digital things ^_^)

Why do you think digital isn't as good as film? In what ways isn't it as good? There's another thread in the photography booard here about digital versus film...check it out!!
