  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How many of you make these? I know that they often fail, but I have a few.

1. Read the Bible in a year following the Robert Murray M'cheyne (SP?) track.

2. Get to work at least 30 minutes early to do coffee, read scripture, and get my online time in before work starts.

3. Increase exercise

4. Reduce how much I eat per sitting

Anyone else?

I don't have any set resolutions this year, at least not ones that can be documented. I have read the Bible chronologically in each of the last two years, and would not have been able to maintain a steady course if there were not others doing it with me. I have a tendency to fall behind, jump ahead and this was detrimental in years past. If you are anything like me, I suggest getting a reading partner. It may not seem that you need one in January, but in October you could wonder where you fell behind.

Reading the entire Bible is something that every Christian should do at least once in their lifetime. We need to be familiar with all of it, not just the parts of it that are easy reading. The books of Numbers and Leviticus come to mind as books that I really had to force my way through in the first year. But the more I learn, the more I realize that these books are vital to a true understanding of the rest.

I am now working on a slower reading with no time limit. I could read the entire Bible 50 times in my life, but that is like waterskiing across the Great Barrier Reef, when the true wonders are found below the surface. I suggest getting out your diving gear in 2006 and really getting into the depths where the choisest pearls are found.

With a solid plan like the M'cheyne schedule as your foundation, you will be very blessed and this blessing can only continue into the rest of your life.
