Hello,I'm Brian from Greenville ,North Carolina. I'm new to this forum. I have not been diagnosed with asperger or any form of autism but probably could be based on obsessive narrow interests, social problems verbal iq>p iq etc.
In the past i recieved a lot of different psychiatric labels and drugs. None of this helped me and i dont want to take that road again. I have had lots of medical tests done because of some physical problems. I have even been to a geneticist because of some minor dysmorphic features but they couldnt find any specific answer.
I have lots of troubles but probably need to focus on employement issues and practical advice. I have a college degree i cant really use and not much of a resume.
I seem to have trouble with some things that are easy to other people but can sometimes find ways to do things other people have trouble doing.
I suppose my main question is would there actually be any help for someone diagnosed with asperger or other form of autism ? Most doctors i know would just give prozac or ritalin and expect things to work out.
Are there organizations that actually help people with aspergers get jobs, take care of themselves, learn etc? Would it be worth getting a diagnosis of asperger or just another bad psychiatric trip?
If anyone knows any good organizations or assistance in eastern North Carolina I would appeciate it. If anyone has any ideas or can relate to my situation you could also PM me or contact me through my profile.
thanks,
Brian
