  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hello,

I'm a medical student in Denver, and an atheist. I lurk at CF from time to time, and I was inspired to register after reading someone's experience with a bad doctor in this thread.

I used to post at the Baptist Board as "froggie" and I remember thinking that a lot of people there had trouble accepting scientific and medical explanations for things they considered sins such as being overweight, drinking and doing drugs, and mental illnesses. So while I'm certainly not here to "deconvert" anyone, I hope to have fun interjecting science tidbits into medical discussions here. To me, religion and science don't have to be in conflict, but sometimes dogmatic adherence to ideas (both religious or secular) can lead to problems!

Well that's my intro. I am truly amazed at the sheer volume of fora here - the mods must stay really busy! I probably won't post a whole lot since medical classes keep me pretty busy. You'll probably see me in the Recipe Exchange, and the Fitness/Health/Medicine fora. I'm looking forward to chatting with y'all about health and stuff!

Hey seebs!

12 thou posts, seebs, that's impressive. That's quadruple my count over at "that other place!"

So I already have a question or two. Do I get automatic blessings just for posting? Or am I already getting blessed because of my amazingly written posts?? I suspect the former.... ;)

And - why is there a brain near my name? Is that for being an atheist, or a med student? Or is this forum psychic and knows that I'm considering neurology?

One blessing per post. The brain thing is the "atheist" symbol.

There's other ways to get blessings. It waffles between showing respect for good ideas and being a popularity contest. You should be set either way. :p

The scary thing about my post count is that I took a 6-month vacation, and I was probably actually about another 500 posts higher before the database crash last summer. I've only got about 4k at IIDB.

Spot the professional writer in this picture. :)

Maybe I should post my pic - seems to work over at II!

(for the mods - don't worry it's not obscene! ;) )

A Science Tid Bit :
Didn't some one note that our bodies , right after death , seem to weigh several pounds less than they did in life ( apart from the bowel or bladder contents ... ) = ergo , the spirit that just left , weighed some thing ?
