  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A LONG WAY OFF is a modern retelling of the prodigal son parable. (I don't know if that is the official name of that parable; it seems, like the book of Luke, to be instead the 'self-righteous older son parable').

This is by Word Films and Prodigal Productions. Unfortunately I have gone 30 mins into it and won't bother with the rest. Characters are thin, there is motion on the set but not emotion, and it is just a bit too afraid of actually saying anything. Back to that self-righteous older brother theme? Well, in this one, he's got a worthy point and it looks as if the prodigal will have to come back to it. Let's see: is that how Lk 15 goes?

At one point, I got the hint that the grounding family in it was conservative Jewish, and then following 'the Real Kosher Jesus' but these are not completely clear.

I'm seriously wondering if Netflix brought it onboard because of the surreality of it.
