CC #485:

"The Holy Spirit... is sent
to sanctify the womb of
the Virgin Mary and divinely
fecundate it"

Here we get into Rome's fraudulent Mariology. There's nothing in God's Word [bible] about the Holy Spirit 'sanctifying' Mary's womb. It's pure invention of fictitious theology !

Next, Mary is declared "redeemed from the moment of her conception". NOT by Scripture, but by "Pope Pius IX ...in 1854" (CC #491).

"The most Blessed Virgin
Mary was, from the first
moment of her conception
,
by a singular grace and
privilege of almighty God
and by virtue of the merits
of Jesus Christ, Savior of
the human race, preserved
immune from all stain of
original sin
"

Rome's entire Scriptural basis for this being Luke 1:28...

The Latin Vulgate reads: Et ingressus angelus ad eam dixit have gratia plena Dominus tecum benedicta tu in mulieribus ("And the angel being come in, said unto her: Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women").

But the Greek is: chairo charitoo ("rejoice favored").

Thus the KJV reads: "Hail, thou that art highly favoured". The NASB: ""Greetings, favored one !"The NIV: ""Greetings, you who are highly favored !"

Even the Romanist NAB has it: ""Hail, favored one !"

There's absolutely no doctrine of Mary's Immaculate Conception [her being born sinless] in this text.

Rome simply invents these things. Most of the time without even pretending a Scriptural proof. Yet, sometimes (as with the false doctrine of Immaculate Conception) they'll offer a Biblical proof text that in no way proves their point !

It's always interesting to see a bunch of people who know nothing about a subject. Thanks for the entertainment.

I might have figured out who the monkey is.

It's not the blessed Joseph sitting at the right hand of God, not that Saint Joseph could or would, I believe that spot is taken, or reserved for the Son of God.

is that not kind of a Straw Man?
I mean I have not heard anybody say that St.Joseph takes the place of Christ?

St. Joseph isn't watching over and shepherding the Church either. I don't know where people came up with the popular idea of the Saints of old looking down from Heaven to those on earth, but it's not from Scripture.

Do those in heaven know what is happening on earth?

Just in case they try to quote Hebrews.

Some try to quote Rev 18:20, but if you come at Revelation from an Amillenial viewpoint, then that doesn't support it either. However it is indirect evidence if you are Pre-millenial.

Revelation 18:4,5
Rev 18:2 And he cried out with a mighty voice, saying, "Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! She has become a dwelling place of demons and a prison of every unclean spirit, and a prison of every unclean and hateful bird.
Rev 18:3 "For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the passion of her immorality, and the kings of the earth have committed acts of immorality with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich by the wealth of her sensuality." [NASB]

These verses have more than one meaning. I don't think we will know for sure exactly what this means until after the fact. But I have my suspicions.

Here is another quote to get one thinking. This is from the Bishop of Rome Francis I-His discourse to the representatives of churches, Ecclesial communities and other religions. It's nothing new as far as the Roman Catholic Churches beliefs on the subject, but just presented as a conversation starter.

"I greet and thank cordially all of you, dear friends belonging to other religious traditions; firstly the Muslims, who worship the one living and merciful God, and call upon Him in prayer. I really appreciate your presence, and in it I see a tangible sign of the wish to grow in recipricol trust and in cooperation for the common good of humanity."

Sounds similar to something the beloved C.S. Lewis would say.

I hope it is ok that I quote this:

"Accept the risen Jesus into your life. Even if you have been far away, take a small step towards him: he awaits you with open arms."

Sounds like a Baptist preacher to me...

I consider myself to be an evangelical, and I believe in a general call, but I must confess that I'm not to keen on how the general call is articulated by most preachers, and most of the time, they also happen to not be Reformed. I don't know where the notion of "accepting" came from, but it's common and non-biblical. With Jesus it's more like...follow me, and believe...repent of your sins and believe God has raised him from the dead...and he's certainly not waiting for everyone with open arms. But anyway, call it nitpicking....

I think I get what you mean
I am not a calvinist
but I am turned off by the "easy believe" style as it is sometimes called, like the style Rev.Billy Graham made popular
did I understand you correctly?

To be clear...I'm a Historicist when it comes to eschatology.
I do not really know what that means

So here is what bugs me as a non-Roman Catholic-

Pope Francis says something like this, "we cannot profess Jesus, we cannot talk about Jesus, we cannot say anything of Jesus without the Holy Spirit. It is the Spirit that impels us to profess Jesus, to speak about Jesus, to have faith in Jesus. Jesus who is always with us on our life’s journey”.

and this, “In order to solve their problems many people resort to fortune tellers and tarot cards. But only Jesus saves and we must bear witness to this! He is the only one. "

and then concludes with this,
"Mary always leads us to Jesus," as she did at Cana when she said: "Do whatever he tells you”.

So is it the Spirit that leads us to Jesus or Mary?
