  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was watching t.v. when an idea for a new story hit me. here it goes.

A girl and a couple of friends have never really believed in magic, but they think it might be fun one night to give a spell a try. So each of the girls buys a book of spells at a local bookstore. That night, they all gather up the nessecary ingrediants and gather around the book to perform thier first spell. To their amazement, the spell goes perfectly and their intrest deepens. If they could perform a spell like this, what else could they do?? This sends them on a long road down the wiccan religion, until they discover the dark truth about this evil subject.

Its kinda sketchy, Like I don't know what she'll be facing... but it's got great potential. I think I should stick some actual spells in there to make it realistic, but I'm not sure God would like that. I don't think that he would care about the writing of the book, considering it condems witchcraft, but I'm not sure how he would like a christians eyes upon an actual spell.

Ideas? :)

If you want to write it to downplay wicca and witchcraft by showing that Christianity is the only way to go, then by all means, WRITE THE STORY. I can't tell you whether to be subtle or terribly terribly blunt in your writing style - that's up to you - but at least be CAREFUL.

See, I'm a Christian, but I'm not for sugarcoating absolutely everything: take Frank Peretti, for example, one of the best Christian writers out there. He takes on some pretty controversial issues, and he doesn't hold back when the situation reaches its climax (there's blood, cursing, etc.)...which, IMO, is all well and good. Don't get me wrong, I HATE all that kind of stuff - turns my stomach - but at least the illusion of REALITY is preserved. I honestly don't think that the full effect can be appreciated if it all were sugarcoated like some Christian cinema/literature is. I mean, in the world we live in today, Christians aren't spared the onslaughts of the Devil, and a lot of the time, THAT is what gets the point across for us, THE HARSHNESS OF THE SITUATION.

So yeah, expose the enemy, show their techniques/weaknesses, throw a spell in or two, just so people will know what to look out for Wicca-wise. Just so long as your heart is in the right place, man, and there's no sinning involved.
