  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The umpires seem to be not using common sense with this new rule. Is it because they're incapable of applying good sense or are they trying to make a point to the higher ups that the new rule leaves something to be desired or should be rescinded???

I watched the video on ESPN and the runner stayed in the base path but over slid the bag no harm no foul, a typical normal run of the mill everyday slide. I was amazed that AJ was that calm, those umpires need a piece of someone's mind cause they sure weren't using what they were born with...

I didn't see that slide. I did see the Toronto one (was pulling for them) and to me it was pretty clear Bautista violated the wording of the rule.

What I expect is this will follow the same path as the catcher/play at the plate rule change. It will take a few months for players, managers and umpires to figure out the nuances and applicability of the rule. Everyone will adjust, and baseball will go on without it being a big issue. And hopefully fewer injuries.

I agree! That was a good call because it looked to me that the base runner deliberately interfered with the second baseman's throw to first. And BTW, I am a Jays fan as well. Baseball is not a contact sport.
