Our latest feature.

Let other members hear your voice or your favorite song when they view your member profile.

Go to your User CP, then click on Profile.

There will be a section just under your username color and font customization called:

Voice/ Favorite Song:

The file must be in .WAV .MID or .MP3 - it should be around 100kb in size so it downloads quickly when another member views your profile - upload the sound file to your own server, and enter the URL in the field in this format: http://www.yoursite.com/sound.wav

The sound file must be located on your own server or on another server - you cannot upload it here - this is so we do not use up our bandwidth.

*** NOTE ***

Certain free hosts like:

Geocities
Tripod

do not allow remote linking of image files or sound files.

You can hear it yourself since you have downloaded it already, but others can't do it.

Try another free host, or link to it direct from the original source.

For a demo, click on my Profile Link below. You can hear my voice welcoming you to CF! ;)

If you have a sound file in your profile, an icon will appear underneath your Username in your posts (look under my username in this post).

Enjoy! :)

You sounded younger than I expected, Erwin!

I have about 2000 songs on MP3 but I have no idea how to record my own voice on MP3. (It won't be my voice. I think I'll have my daughter torment everyone with a song from "Annie".) ;)
I'll wait for a teenager to come home and show technically challenged Mom how it is done.

It needs to be at a website Susan, you need to find a website to host your voice or song. Try google or yahoo.

I have webhosting at my site, but I can't use it to support these kinds of things I don't think, but I'll check.

But try google or yahoo, and you will need a mic.

And please NO VILLAGE PEOPLE! :D

Erwin: I didn't realize the file was so large, mate. ;)

You sound like the croc hunter :D j/k, actually maybe a little.

Cool feature!

Yeah, and I was looking for a site: I don't have the soundtrack, however if it were free and legal somewhere I would be verrrry happy to know where.

I'm looking for the opening theme to "ChronoCross" or for a song from "Kiki's Delivery Service" especially. If you don't know what those are, drop by the RPGs and anime club and read a few pages :)

In case it would help anybody, here's what I did:

I have AOL. In AOL, click on AOL Keyword My FTP .

Follow instructions to upload your file to your directory on the FTP.

When you type in the URL on the Profile section in your Control Panel on the Christian Forums site, remember that the file name is CASE SENSITIVE!
I didn't know that and goofed at first.

I had a file that was over 100k so I went into Windows Recorder and opened the file there, then I went into Save As and changed the quality from 22,000 htz to 11,000 htz and it shrank to half the size. So, I can play it here.

I suppose Yahoo or other servers may have something similar to AOL's FTP member space.

Hope this info helps someone.

If you have broadband please click my profile.

Do you hear music? It should be an instrumental song from the soundtrack of a game I like. I linked to the file on someone else's site

If you don't hear anything I will try again. Sometime I WILL have "Scars of Time" in my profile once I find a way to get my link to work >_<

(where's that compusmash smiley when I need it. . . )

Okay, I think I've figured out the problem - certain free hosts like:

Geocities
Tripod

do not allow remote linking of image files or sound files.

You can hear it yourself since you have downloaded it already, but others can't do it.

Try another free host, or link to it direct from the original source.

Hey Susan,

Did you make sure that you used upper and lower case in your http address? I ran into the problem of CASE SENSITIVE file name.
I use Chances Are by Johnny Mathis. And, I called my file Chances1.wav, but I typed chances1.wav and it wouldn't play.

Hope that helps,

Patty
