  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I frequently peruse the various Lutheran forums, and it's always so sad because there are never any new posts. Where is everybody?
What? I posted just 12 hours before you in this very sub-forum on "The loud..." thread. Talking church-split too substantive for you?
Also I've been active in the "Apostolic Churches" sub-forum within the "Faith Groups" section, the threads "Breathing with Two Lungs" and the "RC vs. EO" thread. Some broadening ideas for you there. (Broadening out from just Lutheran parochialism, but narrowing if you consider restricting oneself within Apostolic Succession strictures.)

We've only got about an inch or so, but the high temperature for the day is supposed to be a balmy 19.

I should move to Minnesota!

I think we hit a high of 17 here in northern Illinois, and I'm guessing that we've had three inches of heavy, wet, ugly snow.

Ethics. To what extent are the two Lutheran ethical ideas of estates (life is divided up into three divisions church, state, family) and holding offices (husband of a wife, parent, minister, etc.) informative of ethical decisions, if at all?

I think you are raising an interesting question here. Can you put some flesh on it? Maybe suggest a ethical dilemma to which these categories can be applied...

Here in west-central illinois there is nice everywhere. It's not exactly cold I'd estimate in the high 30s but the ice is bad and it snowed again real bad tonight.
Friday it snowed in NYC. Sleet and all and then it all froze up.
I cleaned my car up tonight for tomorrow ... but the door does not close! The latch does not click.
I never had anything like this happenning to me before. :D:)
So when I drive I need to kind of hold on to the door. :)

This lends itself to us being the Frozen Chosen.

We evangelize by having babies.

ah yes...as the Good Book says, "Many are cold, but few are frozen"...

why does everyone want to be Lutheran when Christ returns?...because the "dead in Christ shall rise first"...

thank you...I'll be here all week...

I am getting tired of winter...and it only just started.
I have noticed that unlike past years too many people are very wary of this winter ... and it just started.

Maybe the times we are going through ... storms, political fights, economy, loss of jobs and simple worries take it's toll on people.

Perhabs people are simply getting worn out.

Just an observation.

Thanks,
Ed

Winters have always taken their toll on me. I'm not made for cold weather. And like a lot of people of northern European descent, I get a touch of SAD when the days get short.

One of my winter joys is firing up my big old snow throwing and clearing out driveways. I've done it so many times this year that it has already lost its luster.

My other great winter joy is celebrating the birth of the Savior. Blessed Christmas to you, Ed...

...and to everyone who read this!
