  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I had the baby a little early and his name is David. So I missed many threads and will continue to do so for a while. I have to wonder, how did the human race survive before pain killing drugs? I don't think I could have done that without a pain killer, and then afterwards much Advil! Those of you who may remember our situation, send a prayer. Thanks.

Congrats!

I had natural births (home births for most of them, actually), the first of which was terribly painful (and quite a shock), but I learned a relaxation technique that made the rest very wonderful memories for us.

The technique's basic premise was that when you tense up, you cause your muscles to work AGAINST your pushing uterus, depriving it of it's needed blood supply, among other things.

When you are totally relaxed, letting the contractions flow instead of fighting them, they hardly hurt at all!

In fact, they really don't up until the last ones, which isn't too big of a deal because you know that it means the baby is about to be born, which is exciting, plus you know it's only going to be about 8-10 painful contractions, which you feel like you can deal with knowing it's about to be over! ...

I did this with my last three births, and could hardly believe it but...it worked!

As a contraction hit, I would just sink back into a reclined position and go totally limp, including the muscles in my face, and the pain would never come...just a very strong pressured feeling, but not pain. It was SO awesome!!!

I got the idea from this old classic book (written to Doctors, actually, by a Doctor) called, "Childbirth Without Fear" by Dr. Grantly Dick-Reed (I think that's his name)...

Anyways, it doesn't work at all unless you are TOTALLY relaxed--not one part of you tense, so I practice a lot while I'm pregnant--try to spend at least 15 minutes a day (usually right before bed) in a reclined position and totally limp.

I find that when I concentrate on my facial muscles specifically, making sure no part of my face is tense, then the rest of my body follows suit.

Anyways, that's neither here nor there for you, right now, because for you right now, you are a new mother--BIG congratulations!!!

I just posted this for any pregnant gals who might be hoping for a natural birth. The key is PRACTICING the total relaxation beforehand, as much as you can, and in the positions you think you'll want to be in during labor.

:)

Hope you get a few hours of sleep sometime soon! Give that baby a smooch from Alaska!

Love in Him,
Molly

Congrats and prayers for your growing family. Don't feel any guilt about pain meds. So people have very high threshholds for pain, some don't feel the pain, some go through a terrible time because they have low tolerance and/or intense amounts of pain. I'm very grateful for pain meds too! What a nice way to be able to focus on the baby and not through a tearing stabbing pain haze. Bless you.

Yes, I would have taken anything they could have given me for my first birth, if it hadn't been for the fact that it was a homebirth and there WASN'T anything to take! LOL! ^_^

My above post about relaxation methods wasn't to try and make you feel guilty, at all, so I hope it didn't come across that way. You just asked how women throughout time have managed to give birth without drugs, and so I was just explaining how I think they've done it...

Blessings!

He was 6lb 14 oz. I am a very small person (97lb prepregnancy) though so I tore so bad they took an hour and four layers of stitches before they would let me do more than see him. I kept asking if they were almost done and they avoided answering so I figured it couldnt be good. You can do brave homebirth. I will take an epidural next time too. ;)
