  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Wow, this thread is almost 2 years old!

Since originally posting this thread, we signed up for Netflix, quit when they increased our membership, joined Blockbuster.com and quit that because we became obsessed with renting movies!

Now, it's less tv and more reading.

If my city didn't have such a good library with a great inter-library loan system, I would probably go the Netflix route, but I don't think there has ever been a movie that I couldn't get,and they are all FREE, can check out up to 10 at a time, for 7 days, only 10 cents per day late fees, too! I use the online catalog to search for, and reserve what I want, they call me when it comes in.
I have heard that Wal-Mart has something similar to Netflix? Whatever,I would no doubt use such a service,if necessary.

Netflix has over 65,000 different movies to choose from. Walmart is not doing it anymore but they used to. Netflix is the largest right now with over 5.2 million customers and I belive they have a 90% customer aproval rating whitch is out standing. I also like the idea that you have no due dates and no late fee's.

I've had netflix for a few years now (could it be going on 3 already?) We do the 4 movies at a time deal. It's so much better than any in store system and has so many more movies than my local library system and I can't remember the last time I actually had to wait for a movie to be a available- the new stuff is available right away, and their foreign film selection is excellent.

A couple times movies have gone missing, and it's NEVER been a problem, we've never had to pay for them. (I guess if they were lost in the mail regularly it would be a different story)

When I mail a movie back they usually have it by the next day so we often have 20+ movies a month by regular rotation.

The big plus for me, whenever I have wanted to cancel service it's been immediate .. they've never screwed up and charged an additional month, and when I want to start up again it's no questions asked, as long as only a short time has passed even my queu is intatct. Any changes in type of service have been processed immediately.

I rarely rave about a service or product, but I'm always telling people to give it a try if they watch a lot of movies.

Our library doesn't have enough of a selection, :( plus they don't let minors take out ANY movies because of so many problems with parental complaints .. so I can't just have my daughter pick them up which annoys me to no end.

They scan them at the post office so Netflix can send the movie as soon as they get the scan. It depends on how close you are to a distribution center. Since I live in the NY metro area, mine arrive in a day.

I live in the middle of nowhere and Netflix is still fast. If they ship on Wed., I get on Friday morning for example. I've had that about two weeks. I got the cheapy deal- 1 movie at a time.

I also signed up for the Blockbuster free trial at the same time. With that I get 3 at a time. They are quite fast, too.

I don't know which service to keep yet :) But I'm happy with both so far. Much nicer than driving 30 minutes one way to the video store, paying $4 per movie and who knows how much in gasoline to get them and then go back to return. :)

This is exactly what happened to me. I had it when it first came out, a little over 4 years ago. After my house fire, we were at my parents house for a while, and not knowing how long we would be there (they did not have a dvd player) I called them to cancel. The movies were intact, so I sent them back, unwatched. They tried to talk me out of canceling, then charged me three times that month. It was $19.95 then, so I had almost $60 worth of charges when I told them I had sent the movies back! They did finally reverse it, and give me my money back. Biut, I will not try them again.

I've got nothing but love for Netflix. Great selection, and what could be more convenient than my own mailbox as a pick-up and drop-off point? I haven't been inside a video store in over a year. I LOVE not having a due date...worrying about due dates used to drive me batty.

Two minor caveats: one, the movies do take a day or two to arrive, so Netflix does require you to plan ahead. Two, occasionally (maybe 2-4% of the time) a movie will arrive that is unplayable due to damage or scratches. They are quick to send out a replacement.
