  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am preaching a sermon this week on 4 different steps that I've found are useful in reading the Bible.

But I need some texts to back up 2 of the steps.

1. We must THINK about what the verse means to us and what God is trying to say to us through this specific text.

2. We must take what we have read and figure out how to apply it to our lives, and make it a part of us. We must "live" the text.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This Seems Truly Sad...

Could that "17" be a reference age? If so, you have to wonder what church councils are thinking. But given the importance of the word, and the possibility that God's people may actually have to endure this:

Deut. 6:6; Jos. 1:8; Ps. 1:2; 77:12; 119:15, 23, 48, 78, 148; Col 3:16; Heb 4:12-13.

Lu 6:46-49; Jo 14:21-24; 15:9-14; Jam 2:14-26; Lu 11:28; Mt 12:50; Jo 13:17.

There is overlap between these two lists. I would suggest asking NOT what this text says to me, but what the Spirit is saying to the church. Next time, please, please, PLEASE come up with your texts BEFORE your outline.

Blessings!

Honestly, I don't really appreciate either of these responses. I never said that these points weren't already anchored in, supported by, and formed from scripture. I was just checking to see if anyone knew of more places in the Bible that speak of these same ideas.
