Need to talk it out...

Today I received a phone call from our school's automated phone system that a student had brought an unloaded gun to school and had been escorted out by the police. A search was done and no other weapons were found...although rumor has it that bullets were found as was weed (in his locker). The boy wanted to commit suicide so the rumor goes in the school.

I remember this kid from subbing. He sat behind my daughter in study hall and is a freshman!! I'm glad I didn't substitute today but am really nervous now about all this.

That is a scary thought as to what this kid could have done today. I am thankful that he was caught before he could do anything. I pray that now he gets the help that he so desperately needs.

I don't know what your school's procedures are in situations like this, but I have a feeling the kids are going to be watched rather closely and the school may be put in some sort of lockdown.

As I said, I am very thankful that he was discovered before anything happened.

Sorry that happened, Lambie. The same thing happened at my son's college a couple of years ago. Everything turned out alright, and the young man got help. He had just come home from the war and didn't know how to handle being home again....Poor kid.

Lord, we thank you for your protection for all the students and teachers today. Grant your peace to Lamb and her daughter as they cope with the reality of this danger. We pray also for this young man so that he would hear the Gospel and that You will bring him to faith. May all who help him provide all that he needs. We must put all our trust in the Lord. Praise God that our Lord was looking out for everyone today.

We have all seen such a change in society. The High School I attended in the 70's was very technically oriented. We were actually encouraged by our machine shop teacher to bring our firearms in and install scope mounts and do other gun-smithing, and receive extra marks. There was a target shooting club, complete with indoor range. That was then, now students there are not even allowed a pocket knife.

It grieves me deeply to have seen a safe simple society turn into what it is today. I too am fearful as to where it is going in the future. In some of our larger cities kids have to walk through metal detectors, and there are full time police officers in the school everyday. The only consolation is that our Lord is with us always.

We had a school shooting when I was a senior in high school (40+ years ago). One of my good friend's father was killed. Riding the school bus, I got to the school just before it happened.

Suicide or at least the contemplation of it is so common among out youth. I hope that through this the boy can receive help, and that others can let it be known that they too are having trouble with life.

There was a school shooting at my highschool back in 1974. It was during Christmas break so there were no students in for classes, but the building was open because the business offices were in the high school.
A 17 yo with a couple rifles and some ammo walked into the building and barracaded himself in a 3rd floor room. He set off smoke bombs which prompted the janitors to pull the fire alarm. One of them went up to see where the fire was and he was shot.
The kid then fired on the fire trucks as the arrived along with anything else that moved in front of the school. My dad's step-brother was killed.

After a couple hours the state policed managed to get into the room and subdue him. He later hung himself in jail.

Maybe he didn't do anything THAT time, but who knows what will happen the next time? LilLamb, I've got you and your family and the students at that school in my prayers. For some reason young people seem more prone to suciside then more mature folks, which is really a shame as they have everything to look forward to, but I guess that may be the big part of the problem. All to often young folks get caught up in the troubles and rewards of "this life" and have no thoughts of the life to come, then when their bubble bursts they think of ending it. Just another sign that Satan is very active and would love to take out young people and cause some reals scars for their loved ones.

Hormones causing a lot of big emotions are another reason some teens go for suicide. EVERYTHING is drama during that period of life.

Yes, I think you are quite right. I wouldn't wish to be a teenager again for nothing, even though you are in the prime of your life its a very trying period and one which all too many fall pray to Satan and his wiles.
