Does anyone know how many pages a short story should be. I mean on regular sized paper...double spaced...how do I know if my story is long enough to be considered a short story...ya know long enough to be put into book form. What size font would you print it out on? I have an offer for a professional to proofread my story, but I'm so nervous that it's going to be too short, or the wrong size font.

I'm supposed to have it done tomorrow...and here I am asking this at 2 a.m....that's so not smart! Anyways...any tips would be appreciated!

Hope it's not too late:

Professional short stories are about 1,000 to 10,000 words (lower is "flash," or "short-short," higher is a novella), though most fall between 3,000 and 8,000. Use Courier New 12-pt., and double-spaced.

If you're using MSWord, go to File, then Properties, then Statistics, and it will give you a word count. But anything from about 10 to 25 pages would be about right.

I don't think that there is a real limit on a short story. I call books with page numbers of between 10 or less to about 200 short stories because I normally read like 300 to 500 page books. But I don't think that say the smartest person in the world would call 1000 pages long. Its a point of view mixed with reading levels.
