  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Need to get this off my chest...

Umm ^ not exactly helpful.

Anyway, yes it is normal (for lots of babies) to want to sleep with you. That's all she has known! And it's only a problem if you find it a problem, not anyone else. In terms of showering, do it when DH is home. I usually shower at night when they are little, or find a time when she will be happy to lie on the floor of the bathroom on a blanket or something. Shower with the screen/curtain open and talk and smile at her continuously. A bit weird to get used to but it works.

And you know my answer to eating and getting things done is.....a baby carrier.

And trust me, you get really really good as a parent at doing stuff one handed

"half an hour naps during the day" made me pause. Hmm...could she be too warm or too cool? I know Anina wouldn't take long day naps for a few days until I figured out her cosleeper mattress was too hard and we added a thick blanket wrapped around it. You are probabaly already doing this, but do you have some soothing music to play while she naps? Is the room dark enough? I'm trying to think of all the things that could keep a tiny baby from taking longer naps during the day......maybe a more experienced Mama can jump in here to help.
I DO so remember taking showers while holding my breath practically hoping she wouldn't wake up! All too soon, you'll be able to put her in one of those jumper things and play peek a boo with her while you shower

I don't have music playing when she sleeps. (My CD player broke... i don't have one anymore!!!) But she may be able to sleep better with some noise. She sleeps really well out in the lounge room when I have the tv on. But then again she is sleeping on me then.
I'm pretty sure she's not hot or cold...
Maybe the room is too light for her. She sleeps pretty well during the night, so her bassinet must be comfy enough...

I don't know if anyone else has said this to you, but you sound like you are suffering from post-partum depression. I had it with my first and it went on for months. I think you need to speak to your MD. Your baby is simply reacting to what she can sense coming from you. That is why Daddy seems to do better with the baby.

She is asleep!!! I can't believe it! Granted she is sleeping in her bouncer thing, but still... she's asleep and not on me!!! YAY!!!
I put her in the bouncer so I could do a couple of things, I was only going to leave her in there for a couple of mins and I came out to get her and she was sound asleep. So I left her there. I figure I can get her used to sleeping without me in that and then move her to her bassinet once she is happy sleeping without me!!!

Lisa... I did think about PND, but I did the questionnaire thingy with the Nurse that came to see Maddie, and I answered honestly, and I'm way off what they class as even being close.
I was just having a bad couple of days. I feel great now and I honestly feel like I have bonded with my baby... FINALLY!!!
I can deal with her crying more easily now, I can deal with the fussiness...
I think I just had a case of the baby blues.

you shouldn't feel this way, being a mother is hard but with God's help you can do it. ask God for help he's on your side.

This is about as helpful as a kick in the head. It really can only hurt mothers who are struggling.

angelsgirl, sleep deprivation is a horrible horrible thing. I think that a lot of people really underestimate it. My baby didn't sleep through the night until he was 6.5 months old. His brother has night terrors. My husband and I were trying to live on 3 hours of sleep for four months (we were getting about 5 hours each for the first two). It did. not. work. We were miserable, sick and couldn't over illnesses, non functioning, wiped out and hating each other.
Sleep, anyway you can get it is a must. Don't feel bad, don't worry about what other people tell you about not spoiling the baby or keeping a clean house for her or anything. The mess will wait for you.
Check for the food sensitivities and go to your doctor as a follow up.
Also, if you feel like she is getting too tired, she may also be getting over stimulated. Try white noise or a classical music station (for my oldest it was our friend's Christian Rave music cd). If you have to go to the thrift store and buy a radio for a few bucks. Keep your home a comfy temp and keep lighting low.
It really does get easier and it gets a lot more fun.

A mild case...good. It is INDEED overwhelming especially when you are recovering and sleep deprived. Hang in there.
