• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hey. Does anyone know of any good books concerning youth and alcohol/addictions and dealing with them in a church setting?

I been helping out with my church's Youth Group this past month and am finding out there are teens in it that are 30 days sober, one is going NA, etc. Been making connections with these kids and bonding with them.

talked with teh Youth Pastor about maybe a youth recovery meeting once a week or every other week fro just those in recovery or wanting recovery.

Too small a group at this time and time limits to set up anyting like a Celebrate recovery program but would be more like an hour or so with me, the youth pastor and the few (at thsi time) youth in a AA/NA style meeting BUT christian based.

Went to a couple local bible book stores and there aint nuthin at all on the subject of youth and recovery in church.

even the clerk was suprised there isnt anything on it. I went to CR's web site but all they offer is a package for 99 bucks on a CR program.

At thsi time I am just looking for something (if it exists) that gives guidance on running a meeting, topics, discussions, setting it up, etc.

any one know of any books? manuals? training aids? anything?

my internet acces is limited but I wil try to check here as i can.

thank you - Norm

You already have all the material you need inside you Norm. Have faith in what you have learned and has brought you to where you are today. There are areas on this forum where you have listed the 12 Steps and their scriptural counterparts. Simply do a study on them and lead any willing to do the work through the process so that they too may have the spiritual awakening that comes as a result.

My opinion anyway.

on college courses of working with youth; you can find some very awesome books on youth support groups. put this together with scriptures; and let the kids guide topics along what they see. it creates strong ties, brings out the leaders, and gets our younger generation thinking in terms of being a knit together family with the Lord as leader. i've seen some awesome groups, and really neat kids learning about life, spiritual gifts, etc. by the way. give the kids SOAP to wash with. give them a few minutes to work on a scriptures, then have them share with eachother in groups. ;)... and norm!! we sent you a prezzie. lol... exspect it by friday. xo dee

its a good opinion. gives me a good idea here in that perhaps i can build something based on the 12 steps into study discussions.

thanks for reminding me of the simple basics!
