  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am writing this from my sister's computer, from which I always access the internet.
I am a writer working on several projects (including a Christian response to the Aum/Aleph cult).
I was using a really old computer (1990 or so) a neighbor gave me last year for all my word processing-related things. (it wouldn't work for much else)
Unfortunately, the 3 1/2 floppy drive on my old computer broke today.
Therefore I need a new or at least working computer. Also pray that I will find a way to retrieve some important files that are left on the hard drive. Since the 5 1/2 floppy drive (outdated!) is the only disk drive that works now, and no modern computers (including my sister's) have 5 1/2 drives, there seems to be no way I can retrieve this.
I cannot use my sister's computer for my writing either as I would then no longer be allowed to use it for the net.
The point of my long sad story is that I need a new or at least working computer.

Update: I think that I may have an idea on how to retrieve my files from the old computer's hard drive. If by some chance the modem on it still works (never tried it because it is too slow for going online normally) then my sister and I can probably find some way to e-mail my files to my box, where I can then download them on her computer. That's my last chance at retrieving anything from the old computer, so I hope it will work.
I have not been able to afford a new or working computer of my own yet. Please keep praying though.

I lost the laptop contest last month.
It looks like my sister will give me a loan out of the family money to buy a refurbished computer that is almost as good as new in an online auction that she has seen. That is if the family financial situation stays stable. The going price is around 600 dollars or so, which is a LOT less than the average price.
Only thing is, I will have to make that one, if I get it, last until I make some good money somewhere (if you know me you know that's impossible) because I won't be able to afford additions or repairs at all. One bright side is that my sister has agreed to share software, so that saves me about 500 dollars.
As for the old 486, I'm thinking of donating it to a museum once I get my files off of it LOL. Well, I got that one free, so no big problem.
Unless you fix computers, like old relics, and want to buy it from me. LOL
Maybe I should check with antique stores???
