Depends on what you mean by prayer.
If it's specific prayer requests for the needs of others etc, I generally last about 2 minutes.
If it's talking to God about everything, including others, I "pray" about 8 hours a day.
We chat all day long, He is never out of my main focus.

There is no complex formula to increasing prayer, because it's all about relationship.
How do you increase prayer time ? Increase the relationship. Not only by length of time, but depth of intimacy as well. The more you focus on God, the more you want to be with Him. The more you experience with God, the more you want to be with Him.

Prayer is spending time with Him in an open and honest dialogue.

Compare this concept with the interactions you now have with people.
How much time do you spend talking to someone is in direct proportion to how intimate you are with them or how much time you spend with them and how much you enjoy the interaction.

There is no set time of prayer you have to have.. There isnt anything anywhere that says you need to give up this much time of your day to spend with God. He wants to take your whole day though, and He does want you to talk to him, even if it is only 5 minutes.
Why dont you try this.. I dont know how much time you have during the day, or what you like to do with the Bible, but you can try "praying the Bible" and all that means is that you read the bible, whatever book you want.. I dont know lets say Proverbs, and each verse if it is only a couple chapters let say Proverbs 1-2 just claim each and every verse by saying.."Thank you Jesus, I claim that for my life" or whatever it is that you want to say "Bless You, Father" just read the scripture and claim it as your own. Or if you want take some time to read the Bible not pray on it, just read then pray about what you've read, ask God to show you how HE wants you to pray

I agree very much with this poster. When it comes to requesting something or interceding on someone's behalf-than it's only a few minutes. But I try to keep GOd in my thoughts all day long. Think of it like this, when you are in love you think about that person ALL the time, right? I try to do the same with God...I'm so in love with Jesus these days--everything always comes back to him in my thoughts. So in that way I'm praying all day long

What everyone else said is right on. Think of Christ througout the Day, Giving all the Glory to HIM. I was in your same shoes for the past couple months, But I kept going to God through Prayer and Reading of His Word (Which is Key in a relationship with Christ). Finally Christ became alive again in my prayer time and in life, and Wow! Don't get discouraged with silence from God. Keep at it. Give thanks to Him after everything you do and see. One thing that helped out for me was Praying in the mornings right after I woke up and starting the day off right. Also Kneeling down to Him in Prayer.

God Bless,
Matt

Yes, practice the presence of God, and talk with Him all day long.

There is also that time set aside for prayer where you should lift up Israel and Jerusalem, praying for the peace of Israel and Jerusalem, and for our countries sins and for the presidents and leaders of the countries throughout the world. If you want to be a prayer warrior and "stand in the gap" for others, it can be a special calling. Books by a fellow named E. M. Bounds can help you grow in prayer life. Also Arthur Pink has a book about fervent effectual prayer that can be read online here:
http://www.pbministries.org/books/pink/Fervent_Prayer/fervent_prayer.htm

2Ch 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Ps 122:6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.

Alawayselearning,

Quality not quantity that counts.

I have a constant conversation with God. But My formal prayers are kept very short and sweet.

However, I do keep a prayer diary. This means that even I can't forget some of the people I want to pray for. Often the prayer for them is some pages back in the book, so somedays I just have a list of names and subjects for my prayers. But that's OK I know God will understand my Prayer, and will listen when the name or subject crops into my mind some 5 hours later. I write it everyday as part of my prayers, along with notes on a reading for that day. The best thing about this is you remember to say Thank-You when a prayer has been answered.

Go into your bedroom, unplug the phone, put cotton in your ears, get on your knees, and PRAY. If your mind starts to wander, grab it and pull it back to where it should be, if you need help with that, pray with someone at church or something. Go to a prayer meeting, that may help.
