When I pray, I pray for no more than 5 minutes, then I get easily distracted. I need help on focusing on god when I pray and to extend my prayer time. Any advise?

I agree very much with this poster. When it comes to requesting something or interceding on someone's behalf-than it's only a few minutes. But I try to keep GOd in my thoughts all day long. Think of it like this, when you are in love you think about that person ALL the time, right? I try to do the same with God...I'm so in love with Jesus these days--everything always comes back to him in my thoughts. So in that way I'm praying all day longAlternate Carpark said:Depends on what you mean by prayer.
If it's specific prayer requests for the needs of others etc, I generally last about 2 minutes.
If it's talking to God about everything, including others, I "pray" about 8 hours a day.
We chat all day long, He is never out of my main focus.
There is no complex formula to increasing prayer, because it's all about relationship.
How do you increase prayer time ? Increase the relationship. Not only by length of time, but depth of intimacy as well. The more you focus on God, the more you want to be with Him. The more you experience with God, the more you want to be with Him.
Prayer is spending time with Him in an open and honest dialogue.
Compare this concept with the interactions you now have with people.
How much time do you spend talking to someone is in direct proportion to how intimate you are with them or how much time you spend with them and how much you enjoy the interaction.
