  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This is my first post and I apologize if this is the wrong section for this type of thing. I'm needing help in finding a particular biblical passage that has thus far eluded my searches through the bible and Google. I vaguely remember a particular passage discussed in Sunday School many years ago, but I don't recall where it was in the bible or even roughly so at all. The passage went something like there was a man who lived faithfully for all of his life but found out that he was going to die or was afraid of dying due to his age. He prayed to God to let him live for a few more years and God granted the man his request. However, the man did not live the the extra years that God had granted him faithfully and instead lived them in wickedness. I'm very fuzzy on the details but that is the gist of it. If anyone could point me to the particular verse where this starts that would be really awesome and thank you.

This may be Hezekiah?

Hezekiah was a king of Judah. His story is told in 2 Kings chapters 18-20, where he is described as a man who did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, just as David had done. We are told he removed idols, trusted in God and kept the law. He rebelled against the King of Assyria, and, when he threatened Judah, went to the prophet Isaiah for guidance. They prayed, and Assyria was defeated.
When Hezekiah became seriously ill, he prayed; asking the God he had served all his life for help. Isaiah told him that God had heard his prayer, Hezekiah asked for a sign and was given one. (See also Isaiah 38-39)

I don't know if Hezekiah spent his last years in sin. He did receive envoys from Babylon, welcomed them and showed them everything in his palace. Isaiah said that one day, Babylon would invade the country and carry off everything that the king had shown them, even his family would be taken. But because Hezekiah had lived a good life, this would not happen in his lifetime.

Hi Thornberry, WELCOME to CF .. I hope you have an enjoyable and profitable time here!!

As to your Scriptural request, Strong in Him got it, the miraculous, and the foolish/prideful choice of Hezekiah, all being talked about in 2 Kings 20. I wouldn't classify him as "wicked" though, at least not in the classic sense (if you will) of so many of the other kings of Israel and Judah who turned to worshiping and serving other gods.
