Hello everyone , it's my first time here on the forums yay
. Anyways, I've come to these forums because I'm seriously stuck between two choices, and I do not know which to make. I would gladly appreciate any help or response I can get . Let me tell you the story.
Ever since my sophmore year of high school, I've been addicted to a game called Ragnarok Online. The company that made this game is called Gravity Co. So in a nutshell, Ragnarok Online is an online game that requires the players to make a fee of 12 dollars a month to play the game. Honestly, I think it is WAY too overpriced. This is one of the main reasons why some people have switched over to "private Ragnarok Online" servers. Private Ragnarok Online servers are servers ran by anonymous people who wish to give themselves and others a chance of playing the game without having to pay for it. Private servers, in itself, are considered "illegal". Anyways, as time moved on, Private Ragnarok Online servers starting to become more populated, and more of them appeared like wildfire. In this present day, one can easily find private server and join it within minutes. Because private servers are NOT a part of Gravity Co., Gravity Co. decided to file lawsuits against the owners of these private servers. Why? because why would you want to pay to play a game, when you can play the exact same game for free? So the math here is, Gravity loses players thus losing profit. However, Gravity's efforts only lead to about ONE private server to be shutdown by the feds.
Today however, Gravity has legit servers all around the world, including one in the U.S. Because so many players have joined up with their servers, Gravity has decided to not shed any more sweat into fighting against private ragnarok servers. This is because they already make much profit off of their legit servers. From what everyone is telling me, Gravity could care less. The status of Gravity right now is that they're currently working on the sequel to Ragnarok, so they really don't care too much about their first game.
Alright well, here's where the ambiguity sets in: If one were to play on these private servers, would it be considered stealing? I'm so tempted to play on these servers, and my conscience is telling me two things. One side of my conscience is telling me, go ahead, if Gravity Co. was truly devasted and in a state of loss because of these Private Servers, then they would be all over them, but the truth of the matter is, they're not doing anything. So.. no harm, no foul right? however... the other half of my conscience is telling me, if this is considered stealing, then it is sin.
I've played on private servers on and off, for a long time, and this thought never occurred to me till just a couple nights ago. Honestly, I don't think playing this game will impair my relationship with God, but if playing on these private servers is a sin, well then... it's a sin, and I should stop.
Sorry for the long read, but I really hope to find some sort of response to the topic. Once again, thank you for taking the time to read this
Oh , and feel free to send me a whisper if you like
