  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi

I have always been interested in Near Death Experiences (NDEs). However, from a Christian point of view we have to be cautious. Granted, you do get believing Christians who have them, and what they report back is biblically sound. Take the book "30 Minutes in Heaven", which I think is the account of a Bible believing Christian having an NDE.

However, what about non-Christians who have heavenly NDEs? You get atheists and agnostics reporting back heavenly scenes in their NDEs, and not to beat about the bush, agnostics/atheists etc don't go to heaven when they die.

Does anyone have any views on this topic of NDEs?

Yes I am very leary about these theme's. Scripture said by Jesus when He was telling bout the parable of lazures, That even he begged to get out and couldn't so once you go there your stuck. And Jesus also said unless a man be born again, he shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven......Scripture backs this up and that where you go to find the answers...

Flipside perspective of this.

My mum (now with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ) almost died of Meningitis in a hospital bed when still quite young.

After she recovered she related to us a story of how she had seen evil spirits and demonic creatures climbing the walls and ceiling of her hospital room.

A more Godly, Jesus loving woman you could never wish to meet (and I'm not just saying that cos she was my mum!) She's the reason I and many others are saved.

My point is this.

Satan is the Father of Lies and a Miserable Coward who will attack people even when they are close to death. I beleive he did so with my mum to make her doubt her salvation when she was at her weakest and most vulnerable.

As for athiests and agnositics etc. He's hardly likely to show them visions of the pit of Hell just before they enter its gates is he? They'll see it clearly enough when they slam forever behind them!

Just more of the devil's lies I'm afraid, the athiest/agnostic stands on the brink of death with a satanic hologram of heaven which makes him feel secure enough in his pride that he was right all along to step into the abyss.

It evaporates shortly afterwards - unless that is our merciful Lord snatches him back for a second chance!

The alternative to this of course is that they do actually get a true glimpse of Heaven, then sent back in the hopes that they might change their ways.

I agree with that. God has many ways to reach someone and if that is through a dream or NDE

A couple of the NDE's I heard spoke of kind angels of light that later started clawing and pulling, dragging them toward Hell.

I don't think it's necessary to discount someone's report of what they saw, just because they weren't Christian. It is up to God to decide who He invites to eternal life. We don't know what goes on between people and God.

Yes, He was clear about what He offered and what He expected of people. Justice and decency included. But in old covenant terms, people were considered as righteous, through their faith. God set the terms.

My uncle had a NDE several years ago while having surgery. He was not a christian. While he was on the table, they (the people working on him) lost him for a couple minutes.

My mom was in the waiting room praying for him.

To this day he still tells how at one point, he doesn't know when exactly, but he was suddenly surrounded by light. He really emphasizes the love - there was so much love surrounding him, and he could hear my mom praying for him. The next thing he knew he was waking up in a hospital bed. He was told he would never walk again.

Today he is a christian, and he can walk without a cane or any help.

I think it is wise to listen to everything, take it in, but listen to what is loudest and heaviest and be honest as possible about sorting between the various things that come in.

It can get granular, and it can get generic, like "Joe said this and Joe is a good guy so what he said must mean what I think he meant" - which usually comes out more like "Joe is a good guy who says what he means" (and what we think he meant may be very different. Or What God meant through Joe.)

Or, it can get general, like "all Republicans" or "all Democrats" or "all steelworkers" or "all pre-fabricators"... where we have to use such language, but also have to remember such language *is* generic and so truisms must be very cautious when found, if they ever can be found.

Powerful story, and a very interesting perspective

I couldnt breath but It was just all black.
Scary. Glad you survived it!

Great story.

I know a few people who saw angels and other odd things a few days before they died. Some were Christians, some I'm not sure. We're all part of the human race. We all lose control of what happens after a certain point.
