  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Can't wait to see how Penn State does after that amazing last season.
I just read where Penn State will open 2014 against UCF in Ireland. I guess that's one way to get around the bowl ban. Going to Ireland will be like a bowl trip for those players.

I would like to see a few changes in amateur football that would make the game closer to what it was in the 1880s and 90s:

two 30 minute halves

a wider field = 63-70 yards

no blitz

rounder ball

soft pads/safety equipment

goal posts on the goal line

wider goal posts

backfield motion permitted (like the Notre Dame box single wing)

no shoulder charge tackling

limited substitutions

This will make a 60 minute game of football in 60 minutes and promote safety.

While this is not the modern day version of gridiron football, it is more in keeping with the old rugby game that it came from by having more FOOT in football. I prefer that it be that way but it is not likely to come back as it should.

caption identifies the player at the front as George Jewett - it is said he was the first great black college football player and started his career in 1890

The Four Horsemen:

The Four Horsemen – from left to right – Don Miller, Elmer Layden, Jim Crowley, and Harry Stuhldreher.

----------

Outlined against a blue-gray October sky, the Four Horsemen rode again. In dramatic lore they are known as Famine, Pestilence, Destruction and Death. These are only aliases. Their real names are Stuhldreher, Miller, Crowley and Layden. They formed the crest of the South Bend cyclone before which another fighting Army football team was swept over the precipice at the Polo Grounds yesterday afternoon as 55,000 spectators peered down on the bewildering panorama spread on the green plain below.”

James Street - a man definitely born to win - RIP at age 65:

Former Texas Longhorns QB James Street, 65, dies - ESPN

Street made his first career start two games into his junior season in 1968 and went 20-0, with a Cotton Bowl Classic victory over Notre Dame in 1969 and a win over Arkansas in the matchup billed as the "Game of the Century."

LHN - Longhorn Legend James Street remembered - YouTube

He wasn't the flashiest player ever - but he had a strong will who played with great determination to win both in football and baseball. You just had to see him play. Never to be forgotten.
