  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Bible prophets and characters had names that that were given to them by parents in their society, like anybody else. But God also gave names to angels (two examples mentioned in the Bible would be Michael and Lucifer), and he even directly gave human names to Adam and Eve.

I wont get into too much detail about this since it isnt the main subject of this thread, but testimonies of people who have gone to Heaven and came back have said that a heavenly language exists there.

Wouldnt this mean that names like "adam" "eve" or "Michael" (which are names people are still called today), originate from a heavenly language? Or would it mean that the Bible just mentions human names assigned to certain people/angels, so people who read the Bible can understand and identify who certain people are?

Back in the day, before people starting going out of their way to give their kids "unique" first names, having a "bible name" was considered a great honor and the first blessing given by their parents.

If you look at the history of language, you'll find that languages have split, and morphed, and combined from the very beginning. If you believe that self-aware intelligence is part of the "image of God", then all languages are derived from heavenly language.

In answer to your last sentence, all names are a way of identifying people. Without names, we are all just pronouns and then the bible would get really confusing, especially in the "begats"...."he lay with her and begat him, who begat him, who begat him....."

But do you think their names were literally Adam and Eve?

Did the name Yahweh and Adonai exist before the Bible?

In English we call the country the Germans live in "Germany" while in Germany they call their land "Deutschland". In America we call our land "America" while in Japan it is written as "rice country". My name in English is pronounced "Jay-me" while in spsnish it's "Hi-me".

The names Adam and Eve had meanings in the heavenly language, but that language is lost to us. The name Adam has been translated to Hebrew through the tower of Babel then translated to English through King James. There is almost a zero percent chance that the sounds Adam used for his own name are the same sounds we use, unless by the greatest coincidence/Godly intervention.

Adam, by any other name, would sin as deep.

Do you think that applies to the names of God in the Old Testament? I read somewhere that all of the names of God in all languages are sacred, and the Hebrew names in the Bible are just other names in human languages.

Yes, I believe the sounds we use in the word Yayweh are close but not exact. I also believe that the English word Yahweh is a name of God and sacred. The word God can also be a name of God and therefore be sacred.

Is the original name of God "I AM", a concept, any more or less sacred than "Yayweh" or "God"? I do not know, but since we are told to keep the name of God sacred I think it would be well advised to keep them all sacred.

I don't understand your question. That's like asking "Do you believe the English language". Do I believe it what, exists? Yes, Adam was speaking some language that the entire world spoke until the time of the tower of Babel. I believe it is the same language spoken in heaven, the heavenly language, but I know of no way to know for certain.

Some people think Hebrew was the Adamic language. Why do you disagree?

Because the language was broken up. Hebrew is not a complete language. Let me try to explain. We in English have one word, hence one concept, of snow. When we say snow we thunk of frozen water falling on the ground as snow flakes. However, in Eskimo they have like 50 different words for snow. The complete language would have all tje English concepts as well as Eskimo. So it would need like 50 words for snow. There are some words in foreign languages that can't be translated well because the concept in the target language doesn't exist. The original language would have a vast vocabulary. English has about 180,000 words, well educated people know maybe 80,000.

I would guess the original language to have a lot of words, over 500,000 for a rough guess.

Do you think the names of angels in the Bible are the same sounds their real names are?
