  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Name a doctrine that you used to believe in but dont anymore.

The rapture.

7 day creationism, or any type of creationism that doesn't involve the earth being at least several hundred million years old.

The infalliblity or "inerrancy" of the bible.

The belief that the Eucharist is just a symbol and not actually Christ's blood and flesh.

The Tribulation as being a future event and a literal 1000 year millenium coming.

The denial of Purgatory for souls.

The belief that the Catholic church is evil and the pope being the antichrist.

Tithing is for followers of Jesus.

Following OT laws are for followers of Jesus.

I'm up in the air about original sin, eternal torture and what the exact nature or fate of people are once they expire on earth.

I used to believe in Young Earth Creationism.

Then I started attending high school at a Baptist private school. While there, they worked hard to indoctrinate us with the supposed "evidence" for YECism. They even had expert "Creation scientists" come as special guest speakers for chapels and the like.

It became abundantly clear to me, very quickly, that Young Earth Creationism was a load of hogwash with NO scientific evidence. And that, in fact, every piece of evidence with which we were presented was fabricated, and that those who promoted it were being incredibly dishonest in their quest to shove an unscientific doctrine down our throats while clumsily attempting to pass it off as an "intelligent" argument.

So I researched evolution on my own, learned about what it really meant, and found that there is no contradiction at all in believing in such while also believing the Genesis account. Truth comes from God, where ever it is found. So if animals evolved, that is God's truth.

When I was a Baptist, I wanted to be saved and they had me read the "Sinner's Prayer". Consequently, I said that prayer almost every time I want to the church because they didn't teach me about whAt it meant to repent. When I started worshiping with the church at my current congregation and reading my bible and realized the importance of baptism for remissions of sin and salvation, I rejected the thought that man has more authority over Scripture.

Enlightenment comes always with repentance. I am hard pressed to think of a doctrine that has not changed over the last thirty four years. All of the changes do have one general theme;I understand God to be much more and we to be much less than I was left to believe.

Oneness-in reference to denying the Trinity, as taught in many apostolic Pentecostal churches.
Speaking in tongues- I'm not a cessationist. I just believe that when it happens, most churches that practice it do not follow Paul's explicit instructions on the gift.
