  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This may fall under ethics but I want to get input from the bible scholars in the forums.

If you grew up in the US, I'm certain you have heard people quote the Bible saying "the race is not given to the swift but to him that endureth to the end".

WHERE IS THAT? I defy someone to show me chapter and verse in one singular book (Example - John 3:16).

 I want to fuss and finger point but theres really no one individual to beat on. So, I'll redirect that energy into advocating sincere and correct study of the Bible.
Its lazy, whenever it happens study that helps create, what ends up being a lie.

For those of you who pay attention while studying and actually read what is written on the page, I applaud you and beg you to keep up the good work.

Please dont misunderstand my heartburn. Its a wonderful encouragment to anyone who may be suffering. But, if its not in 'the book'...

You came up with the same thing I did when looking for this 'scripture'.

But thats the point Im trying to make.

Quilting together bits and pieces of various scriptures and whipping it out like legit scripture is wrong, lazy and... wrong.
Find the (real) scripture about adding to and taking away from the word of God.

Granted. However, just as illegitimate and lazy is taking scripture out of context like you just did.

Chapter and verse were added for study and reference purposes. The bible must be studied in bits and pieces as well as an historical novel ("line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little...").

Also, much is still hidden from us today, evidenced by the widespread disbelief (sadly, within the church) of events like the six day creation, the flood, etc.

It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter. (Proverbs 25:2)

Yup, in bits and pieces if necessary. :D
