  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You are a Witch Hunter living in the 14th century in Germany. You get payed in gold for every "witch" you bring to the hanging tree or the wood pile for burning. You get paid well for doing the work of Almighty God, plus you get to feel all superior to your fellow Christians. Question: What would you think of Christians who came centuries later who claimed you were doing evil becasue they invented a "dispensation" to ignore God's order to "not suffer a witch to live?"

What am I? a vampire or something?

Just how old am I in this scenario?

I would probably issue a No True Christian fallacy, fire off a Bible verse justifying what I do while passing my personal interpretation of it off as THE TRUTH, and merrily resume my path of burning hapless women and looking like a complete knob in the eyes of future generations.

Y'know - the usual literalist inerrantist approach.

As Jesus tells us to love our enemies Mat 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

I would pray for the witch, I do not believe those that would have burnt witches on the stake new Jesus

You wouldn't get very far in this [Christian] country.

Ironically, you would probably be caught by a dispensationalist officer of the law.

The OP said this is the 14th century, four centuries before the US was founded, and is indeed not referring to the US. Stop playing Arab phone.

Good job there's a separation between church and state. Goodness knows when one of these arbitrary theological copouts will pop up and it'll be morally right to execute people for being a bit suspect again.
Like I'm fond of saying: If the earth was run the way you guys interpret the Bible, we'd all be in trouble.

That definitely goes for people like you, who would be burning away if the "dispensation" from your preachers told you it was ok.

The whole point of bringing it up is to show how laughable the notion of insisting on absolute truth in the Bible is when it changes over time.

Not for long I wouldn't -- (in this Christian nation, anyway).

I'd never get away with it.
