• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

My view on OCD not sure its right?
OCD (Obsessive compulsive disorder) is debilitating condition were a person feels that they have to carry out an activity or thought to remain in control of their anxiety
OCD similar to phobias, controlling your anxiety (fear) by avoiding a perceived catastrophe or loss of control by carrying out a ritual.

For instance a person can make sure that the oven is turned off, but just as they are about to walk out of the door they imagine that they have not really turned the oven off, so they better go back to make sure, if they check it ten times it must be off, so from then on they check ten times each time they leave the house worried that if they don’t carry out this ritual they will return to a burnt down house
They are trapped by their fear. This can manifest itself in many ways as long as they believe the ritual keeps them safe. Anxiety is in control,Controll fear through ritual?

You got it!

And in religious ocd, we just keep checking to see if we have blasphemed (or the like), over and over again. Nasty circle. It's why reassuring is not a good thing. It perpetuates the circle. We need to stop fighting the thoughts. No more war - no more ocd. Sounds simple, but it's oh, so hard.
