  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have a turtle, a red-eared slider named Marcus whom I've had for about a year, and he is not well.... he has not been eating for the past week or so and barely seems to move, just floating in his aquarium.... he'll move a little if you nudge him, then slip back into lethargy.... I am worried for him-- does anyone have any turtle advice? :(

Well we had a turtle for about 6 to 9 mos. and that is excatly how he acted before he died,we tried everything except asking a vet,I think maybe they get some kind of virus.Did you get it from a pet store or from the wild?
Sorry I couldn't help.
Susiesmommy
Got him from a friend who moved out of state and didn't want to keep him anymore.... originally came from a pet store (I'm not a pet-buying type, but I took him as a favor)....

There's probably a lot of specific turtle forums out there; find one.
Yeah, probably.... I'll do that, but I thought maybe I could get help here.... I will pray for Marcus.

This is going to sound stupid.......maybe he's trying to hibernate? Just a possibility right? :sorry:
I've found some websites that say these turtles do that, but I don't know how to tell....

How sad. I sincerely hope he is ok. I'd definitely get him checked by a professional if I were you. It might be hard to find a Vet. in your area that deals with turtles however. I'd try anyway though. I'll be praying for Marcus. :prayer: Best wishes!

What’s the water temp? If it’s too low, turtles do go into almost a hibernation state. There is a possibility that the turtle will die while in this state due to starvation or possibly drowning if it doesn’t have enough energy to get to the surface of the water. While in the hibernation state they become extremely lethargic, eat only small amount rarely and in general don’t act too well. I would suggest a good exotics vet have a look at him, just to be on the safe side, but it sounds like the water temp is too low.

Thanks everyone for your prayers and advice, but Marcus has passed on.... I came home last night from a family thing and he was floating kinda sideways.... I looked in on him again this morning and he was floating the same, and had gotten puffy.... thanks again for your prayers and thoughts though, he is at peace now....

It's sad, but it's part of life, I guess.... nothing lives forever, except maybe some really ancient trees.... Thanks, for your kind words.
