With reluctance I admit that my family and I were fans of the show when we first found out about it a year or so ago. The initial draw for us was indeed a family that seemed to portray Christian values and were pretty funny at the same time. Admittedly that draw has worn off over the summer because there just appeared to be a lot of compromise on the show and it got less funny so we stopped watching.

To be honest when I heard about Phil Johnson's interview with GQ last night it really came as no surprise. However when I read the interview I cringed. Despite his right stand on homosexuality I thought his attempt at humor in describing the male attraction to female "organs" was without taste and an improper use of language for a Christian man to be using. Its precisely the sort of thing that show was starting to degenerate into which turned my family and I off from watching it. Despite this - Phil's characterization of Homosexuality as sin was on the money and I commend him as a brother in Christ for taking a public Biblical stand on it

In regards to Phil's "hiatus" - that really comes as no surprise either. But here is one thing that does surprise. Since last night there has been no reply from any of the family members that I am aware of. I have been checking their facebook pages and twitter feeds and 24 hours later - still nothing.

You would think that this family would rally around their father in support but so far all there has been is silence and that disturbs me. Folks we are going to get to see what this family is all about. Are they going to turn their backs on their Dad and show that they are more about money and fame or are they going to take a stand with him and show that they are a family of true faith and values. I for one am interested to see...

With the word-police always having their guns cocked to shoot somebody down are we going to have the thought-police next. We have become way,WAY to uptight about what a person can say....and this is America! We believe in free speech!

If I want to go out in the street yelling the N-word that's my business. People may lower their opinion of me but that is simply societal reactions. If our country continues putting down speech,or only "safe" speech is allowed then an apology must be given A.Hitler for creating a like society. Shame on us.

BTW,there's nothing Phil said that I disagree with;it just appears that he has no right to say what he feels, whether you agree or not!

This isn't entirely true. Let's not paint this picture in such a broad stroke now. Phil's statement remains in GQ magazine and A&E has the right to do whatever they want with their programming - just like Hobby Lobby should have to right to do whatever it wants with its company (like not paying for birth control for its employees through its insurance program).

When they signed the contract with A&E, they signed their rights to free speech over because they no longer live in their house, but the house A&E owns. When you sign other's rules, you have to play by their rules. A company does have the right to suppress free speech to a certain extent, do research of the Supreme Court's rule on this and you will see that free speech is not so free with others own you, Christian or not, and A&E owns them whether they admit it or not

I think Phil's statements are being portrayed as hateful, but I didn't see that when I read the article. What I saw was a guy stating what he believes. Some people didn't like it, so they called his bosses at A&E. I am not sure what his contract with A&E states, but they may have something that deals with his comments in publication or other media. He is free to say what he wants, but the consequence may be that A&E chooses not to have him represent their show. I don't agree with their choice, but they are likely free to make that choice. I am not sure they will be able to continue the show without him, so ultimately their choice may hurt them financially, versus simply allowing him to state his opinion and treat it seperate from their reality show.

No Christian should go around using the N word period it is not Godly. nor should the F_g word be used or any other curse word, because our speech is to reflect Jesus in our hearts. What phil did was say basically the same thing God says. Though he was not very smart in the way he said it. As God said His children are not as crafty as satans children are in dealings with this world. God reminds us be as wise as serpents and as harmless as doves.

You don't agree with anything he said?

So you don't agree that homosexuality, sex before marriage or extra marital affairs are a sin? Cause last time I checked that was all Biblical. You may not agree with the way he said it but I 100% agree with what he said.

Well Hobby Lobby should be able to do what ever it wants along with chick fe la. Fact is there is a double standard. If you are on the side of gays say what you want, but if your on the side of God shut your mouth. I say never, i pray God give me the strength to proclaim his name until my last breath.

I am sure the fact that most of Hollywood is run by gays has nothing to do with it:thumbsup: What is happening is less and less Christian in positions of power and more and more children of satan in power. Any one see where this is leading to the lawless one?

How many of you have heard the phrase, "Oh, it's going to get better". That phrase has been around longer than I am old, longer than my parents are old. It's a phrase to give people hope, but as long as one is on this earth it's not going to get better until one reaches heaven. It gets worse every generation and will continue to until Christ returns for His bride.

"nothing" "disagree".........double negative.

Shame on AE, they should have read their Bible before they joined with them but I will concede that on the Robertson's part they may have foreseen how values possibly could clash. I still think our society is wound a little too tight. I'm getting kinda of tired of the gotcha journalism that makes EVERYTHING a big deal.

Today I was reading The Killing of Kennedy by Reilly. The main news agencies KNEW of his affairs with tons of women but in taste didn't reveal/print about it. I long for those more discreet forms of news, less dirt sensationalism. If JFK could get a pass for what he did then Phil should for what he said.

Bella - I think you might have misread his post. He said he doesn't disagree with Phil. That means he agrees with him... Unless I am reading it wrong....

O'Reilly was harping this evening that Phil had no right to assign damnation;rather than that he only had a right to air his views/morals as taught in the Bible(but O'Reilly didn't think he should be booted).

Then it hit me,O'Reilly is Catholic which doesn't lean on the authority of scripture like a protestant would....Martin Luther's Reformation of sola scriptura! We see all of scripture as God-breathed and if it says idolators, adulterers, and homosexuals are damned so be it. Phil believes the Bible,he understands what it says, and as a Christian he states his belief.

BTW,I think we will see more of this where Christians will be persecuted or marginalized for what the Bible truly says.

Another gripe, I cringe when people quote the woman caught in adultery as proof that Jesus pooh-pooh'ed sin at will. The earliest manuscript evidence does NOT have that scripture in the text. It MAY be authentic or MAY not but should not be leaned on heavily for doctoral answer.

And is this any different from the Church of Christ to which Phil belongs, that believes if you're not baptized then you're not saved, hence damned?
