My take on self-control.
I can only recall my lack of excitement as I hear those who appear to have self-control. Hearing them makes me feel as if I had just had a few drinks during a time of mourning. With their gentle manner and earthy honest humor, what else could I expect? Should I cry because I lack it? No, why water down a good after-shave.
There are some who profess to be Christians that make me feel as if I am being followed. It's an uncomfortable feeling at best. So what is this fearful haunting thing that's stealthily stalks me? I assume it to be, Christian self-control. Its sort of like cabbage, it doesn't smell good, neither does it taste good, but its good for us.
Whatever the lack of self-control is, it will get each of us if we don't watch our moods. Its not anything we can see with the naked eye, smell with our nose, or taste with your tongue, it's an intangible.
Were all being persuaded by it, even at this very minute. It wraps its arms around us, quiets us, and weaves its spell around us. It can be compared to not having enough money, yet we can always find enough to buy a cup of coffee, and a donut.
Now to an astute observer it means most everybody is not going to have enough of it for their own good. It's like chicken soup without the chicken. It can be called non-redeemable, and un-collateralled.
Dwarfed in our own estimation of ourselves, living creatures, busy as bees at our labors, scurrying about the hive, building a house for a queen bee having gone mad in her own life.
Being in total control of myself, I will now call a taxi, and ask the door-man to please shut the door. I will then dream in my dreams of the perfect article, something with a spark of real life. One moment please, I must first tie my shoe-laces before I wave my strange yellow wand, I call a pencil, and begin to write a real article on self-control.
