my pregnant cousin needs help...

My cousin (19) is pregnant with her first child and isn't in a great situation. She is living with her friend's mother who isn't that great of an influence. My cousin has a crappy job, no car, no support, and no health insurance. Also, she broke up with the guy she was dating about month ago, so they are no longer together. She is about 2 months or so along.

What gov't and state (PA) programs are out there to aid single mothers? The biggest thing right now is getting her healthcare. Her parents took her off their policy a while back, however I want to see if they will/can reinstate her. If they won't/can't, she needs to get healthcare some other place.

She's been through a lot, she could really use prayer.

I don't know where you guys are, but over here in Michigan, all pregnant women who have no health insurance qualify for Medicaid. Also, she would qualify for WIC. Make a phone call to your local Health Department or Family Independence Agency. The help is out there. All ya have to do is ask.

Like Jenna said, check into WIC. They should be able to hook her up with some nutritional food and milk...and after the baby's born they should continue to help her out with food, or if she chooses to bottle feed, they'll buy her formula for her.

I'm in Tennessee, but pregnant women with no other insurance automatically qualify for TennCare (our state run insurance program). PA should have something similar.

And yes, the Health Department would be a great place to call. They should have exactly the info you need for your area.

It's sweet of you to worry so much about your cousin. She's very blessed to have someone like you in her life. Hope all goes well with her pregnancy and situation.

YES!!! check with your local health dept. they will give her WIC which will help her now and after the baby is born..also they should be able to her with health insurance..for her and the baby..if not they can probably point her in the right direction!!!

Selune - I doubt she would put her child up for adoption. My sister has gone through the same thing my cousin is going through and my sister was so thankful she didn't put her child up for adoption. I can't imagine not having my nephew around.

Thank the Lord though that she is not even considering abortion.

In PA it's called the "Access" card. It's through the Public Assitance Office of her local town/city.

Yes, she would also be able to get WIC, and probably food stamps and cash assitance if needed (from the public assitance office).
