“My soul waits in silence for God only;
From Him is my salvation.
He only is my rock and my salvation,
My stronghold; I shall not be greatly shaken.” (Psalms 62:1-2 NASB’95)

Human beings are not to be our saviors. We are not to be looking to other humans to rescue us from what ails us as the people and as the nations of the world. For human beings are fallible (imperfect, weak). We should not put our dependency in any other human being to be exactly who he or she says they are, or in what they say that they will do. And this doesn’t mean that we go around distrusting everyone, but that we are cautious, we are discerning, we test the spirits, and we rely on our Lord for absolute truth.

This is why, when I share with you what the Lord is teaching me from his word each day, that I encourage you to study the Scriptures for yourselves, in the proper context, and that you seek the Lord and his counsel for wisdom in knowing what to believe. But he is not going to counsel you to accept lies and half-truths gospels based off Scriptures taught out of context and made to say what they do not say if taught in context. So reading the Scriptures in the appropriate context is critical to correct biblical interpretation.

Anyway, we must not rely on other humans to be our saviors or to tell us the absolute truth, nor should we presume that they would not and that they have not lied to us, deliberately and habitually. For liars and deceivers abound everywhere – in the news media, in social media, in our governments, in the gatherings of “the church,” in Hollywood, in the medical and pharmaceutical industries, in educational institutions, in other trusted institutions, in our homes, and from our friends, family, and neighbors, too.

And we have this group of people who say that their truth is the only truth, but then another group says that their truth is the only truth, and it goes on and on and on. So, who is right and who is wrong? Can we be sure? How can we be sure? Should you trust your government to tell you the truth? Absolutely not! Should you trust “the church” to tell you the truth? No! Should you believe your doctor just because he says it is good for you and it will not harm you? No! So who can you trust? God and His Word.

Are there many things that are not spelled out for us in the Scriptures, specific to our particular situations? Yes! But there are plenty of general principles written down for us to give us guidance and direction in seeking truth and in getting the answers that we need. And everything points back to the Scriptures, taught in context, and to God – Father, Son Jesus Christ, and Holy Spirit. This is where we must get our counsel. If we are sincere in our desire for truth, God will give us guidance in how to know what is true.

We certainly live in very troubled times right now, both in our individual nations, and in the world, as a whole. Things are getting pretty shaken up, some of which could be for our good, to bring wanderers back to God, and to revive the worldly church. But much of it is still disturbing, and it can be very disconcerting because it seems to be going in so many different directions all at once. It is hard to know what is up and what is down, and sometimes that can change from day to day. But we can’t believe everyone.

So, we call on God in prayer, and we ask for his counsel and direction in knowing what to believe, and what not to believe, and to understand the big picture of what is presently happening. And then we need to surrender it all over to the Lord and just pray for wisdom in knowing how to pray and in knowing what we can do to make a difference. And I believe the biggest thing we can do is to be sharing the truth of the gospel with as many people as possible while there is still time, for time is running out.

And we look to God alone to be our salvation, and as the one to rescue us and to give us comfort and help and guidance. But he alone is also our only source for salvation from slavery (addiction) to sin, by God-persuaded and God-gifted faith in Jesus Christ, which is not of our own doing. And that faith results in us denying self, dying to sin daily, by the Spirit, and us walking (in conduct, in practice) in obedience to our Lord and to his commands, in the power of God, or it is not biblical salvation which results in eternal life.

As the Deer

By Martin J. Nystrom
Based off Psalm 42:1

As the deer panteth for the water
So my soul longeth after You
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship You

You alone are my strength, my shield
To You alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship You
