My mother, who is the most loving, most God devoted person I have ever met, is racist when it comes to Asians. It's weird, she's a hardcore jew(who is a Christian), and she doesn't hate Germans, but for some reason she doesn't like Asians. She distrusts them, she thinks they are all militaristic and dangerous. She actually thinks that there are no Chinese homeless people in the whole world, cause they are so proud that they would rather kill themselves then be homeless. What is her problem? What should I do?

The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. My mother and both my husband's parents are racist... it is a hard one to deal with, i know. We try to correct any racist assumptions, and just keep praying. If you know any Asians, it my be worth arranging some social situation where she has to spend time with them and get to know them - meeting real people from any group tends to break down stereotypes.

My dad is racist. He refers to black people as "monkeys" and cracks sick jokes about them. It's pretty hard to deal with.

Some people have odd preconceptions about other people. I usually ignore them unless they offend other people. Then its time to ask them to be quiet about it.

My mum is the same only she hates the men not the women (not not towards asians lol since we are asian) she hates blacks or even Indians (even Philipino). As long as their skin is DARK. She doesn't know God though. It's quite sad as she makes me sick with her ideals and tries to push them onto me but I say NO! At one point I ALMOST turned as racist as her. But no way that's not me...I love everyone...everyone is deserving of love... how about that...my own mother..racist and sexist...can't take it anymore I just CAN'T STAND IT. I've been tormented over this for over a year n its hurting me more and more.
