(Did I spell that correctly?
)
Anyhoo . . . I picked up the new Disciple and Todd Agnew Cds last week.
I demo'd the previous Disciple discs, and the vocals were a bit too out of control for my current tastes. On teh new CD, they are much better for my ear, and it helps pull the whole sound together - I like it a lot.
The new Todd Agnew is also very cool. The lyrics are very poetic, and the singing very heartfelt. His rasp has a really cool quality when he croons as well as when he belts it out.
Being a guitarist, I am always drawn to guitar work. Both albums are a treat in this regard. You expect, even require it, from a band like Disciple - and they don't disappoint. When they slow down, they shine - it is not their style lyrically, but I would love to hear them tackle hymns in a "Strong Tower" style CD. On Todd Agnew's disc, there is a real mixture of good guitar styles to hear, acoustic and electric. There are some well placed riffs that really accent the songs without taking them over.
I recommend both CDs - but, hey, I'm easy to please.
