I've really been flaky lately... Physically fatigued and worn-out all the time, difficulty concentrating and completing tasks, etc. Well, to top it off, I stopped at K-Mart today to look at bookcases, and before I left, used the ladies' room. I then headed over to Lowe's on the next block to look at more bookcases, spent about half an hour there, then left to go home. I was just about out of the parking lot when I realized I didn't have my keys with me! (I carry them in my hand when on foot, for the pepper spray.) I knew I must have left them in the K-Mart restroom, and high-tailed it back there as fast as I could go. Breathlessly, I burst in the front door and beelined straight back to the ladies' room, opened the stall, looked on the hook where I'd hung my keys -- nothing! Oh, no, I moaned (I had been praying this whole time, please Lord, please let my keys still be there....
)... Thoughts of having to call my apartment maintenance office and have my locks replaced, having to get all the locks on my car changed (and how do you get anyone to do that on a Saturday afternoon, anyway??), how much was it all going to cost, would I miss my VA appointment Monday morning, etc. started filling my head. Anxiously, I made my way back to the customer service desk by the front door, praying with all my heart that someone had been a Good Samaritan.... even though it seems like those are all too rare nowadays! I confronted the young woman there with must have been a wild-eyed look, and blurted, "I left my keys in the ladies' room!" Her hand reached beneath her counter as she asked me to describe them. Once I did, she handed them back to me, telling me that a customer had turned them in to the Layaway counter. I just stood there in near-disbelief, checking to make sure all the keys were there, almost incredulous at this stroke of grace. "Thank you, Lord!!" I said with a relieved sigh, before thanking her and finally leaving for home.
I prayed for this anonymous Good Samaritan not just once, but several times this afternoon. Her willingness to take a moment to turn in my keys saved me countless hours of frustration and hassle. I would like to ask that anyone who reads this story take a moment as well to pray for this unknown soul, that God would touch her with His loving hand of mercy and richly bless her as only He knows how.
