  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My friend Gerry F. got laid off last spring, and just started a new temporary job, and now he had to take unpaid sicktime because he got pneumonia.

And his widowed mother-in-law just moved in.

And his son is graduating from high school this year and there's no money for college.

I'd appreciate any prayers you could give, and any advice on how to be a good friend to him and his family.

Will pray for him. As to how to be a good friend, well you have started out good by praying for him and his family. Also, sometimes just being there for someone means more than anything. Not just saying "If you need anything, just call" but taking the initiative and doing stuff before being asked. Like taking dinner over one evening for the family. Or offering to take the mother-in-law shopping or out to lunch. Sometimes little things like that can mean the world to someone. Just a few thoughts!
