  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Um, well my dog licks the toilet.. maybe she's bored. I think it might be the salt.. which is bad for them.

If you can catch your dog doing it, it would probably be good to pick him up and talk to him in an angry upset voice, so the dog knows that he's done wrong as dogs can understand tone. It would be better to do this right after the dog has licked its urine so it knows why you're upset.

God Bless,
Cameron.

I think we need to know a little more about the dog's situation before we can really say anything. It could be one of the things that makes your dog unique, or it could have some other cause.

Under what circumstances does the dog drink his own urine? Does he always have fresh, cool water available? Has he always drank his own urine, or is this a recent change? Is your dog in good health- is he eating, and drinking normally? How are his bowel movements? Is his activity level normal?

I agree about taking him to the vet. He might be lacking a mineral or something and getting it from the urine. I have never heard of this before. If you find out why he is doing this please let us know. God bless.

This sounds like an obsessive/compulsive behavior. Many dogs eat feces for the same reason. There are behavioral ways to correct him from doing this, if you can spend the time to make sure you are catching him in the act (i.e., be outside with him when he does it so you can give him immediate correction, don't let him out without someone around or the behavior will not be consistently corrected). Sometimes certain medications like doggie-prozac can help while you are going through the behavioral correction.

I would definitely take him to the vet and let him know what is going on. He can give you some pointers, and maybe even a referral to a dog behavioral therapist in your area who can help.

i have heard of similar things a dog used o wee on the wall and then the dog used to lick the wall.

the reason they do this is Bordem and lack of mineral.

All animals need salt.

maybe your dog is Lacking in salt.

Does your dog have any toys?

IF NOT by him a bone. once a week.
Give him a kong-small for a foxie and possible mixed colours. fill it up with treats and next time you catch him in the act, tell him no firmly and give him the kong. Also tug toys, Rawhind chews. pig ears.
Woolly toys(use only under suopervision some dogs try and eat the squeaker)
Also have a large water gun filled with lemon juice. if dog wee's and eats his wee spray him, he'll lick it of him and because of the bitter taste he will be told of as well.
it could be an aniexity thing. so also talk to your vet.
