• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It's difficult. I guess it depends on what you normally impose for other 'offences'. I'd go mid range on that, and make sure that she knows beyond any doubt that she has got off lightly this time. But if it happens again....

I'd also speak to the school and arrange all communication with you (presumeably the stuff she is forging your name on) to be done by post, or in such a way as to make your replies unforgeable.

Then punish her. What's wrong with a little discipline?

She may hate you for a while. But at least when she grows up she will be straight and will bare no hatred to you.

Don't withhold the rod. If you do, you hate your daughter, you are basically saying 'she's not worth disciplining'. (that's in proverbs).

Take the TV away, radio away or ground her for a time. Do it for as long as you see fit.

If school doesn't already know make sure you tell her teacher about the issue. See if you can arrange to have information passed directly to you as much as possible. I'd not leave her alone or let her go anywhere without a parent for a while. So that means she'll probably not get to go do some things. She'll not like it and think that it's unfair and embarrassing. Well, then you explain to her that she has demonstrated that she cannot be trusted and when that happens it can really mess things up, and it can take a while to earn back people's trust (in the real world you get fired or kicked out or sued). In the meantime she'll just have to prove to you that she's going to be good. And when you see evidence of that you can slowly let up on the reigns.

You know, Dr. Dobson said in one of his books that when he slacked off in school his mother threatened to go to school with him. I would ground her and make it clear that you WILL go to school with her if you find out she did anything like this again. Not just drop off and pick up, but walk to class and sit next to her etc. Chances are, if she knows you are telling the truth, you won't ever actually have to do it. But, if for some reason she does this again, then definately follow through.

You could also try something a little different, like testing just how much your daughter likes writing your name. If she is so fond of signing for you, have her sit down and write your name a few hundred times until her fingers want to fall off. I'm more of the mind that Sharky is, but I figured that I'd throw something a mite creative out there.....
