• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi I come from a family that has always been respected and well mannered (not to be snobbish). Just recently my Cousin (16 yrs old) was caught smoking by my neighbor. He then made a promise saying he wouldnt smoke cigarettes anymore. Just today I went into my garage to get a soda out of the fridge and I saw my cousin Smoking. But it wasnt even a cigarette. It was crushed Basil leaves, oregano, Chives, and other cooking condiments wrapped in rolling paper. I think this is really stupid and completely random. What I want to ask is, is Smoking "Cooking Condiments" potentially more dangerous than smoking a cigarette? I really want to help him stop. Im 16 but I dont know if he's going through a stage of acting cool(strange) or if he really has been smoking for awhile and needs to do something with his hands.

My friend smoked tea leaves and it never did him harm as such. I still would never advice smoking anything. I don’t think it's to do with his hands, if it is or not. Try and get him into a good hobby, like model kits like I do. That keeps my hands busy (And stuck together in different colours) most of the time. And it's a great thing to keep you away from these bad things as it can occupy you're mind, like it does for me when I am doing it. Anyway it may be just to pose, as I said my friend did that to get laughs, so maybe you're cousin is doing the same or even trying to resist real cigarettes, like herbal cigs? You need to confront him over this. But softly or he could just rebel. Just try talking to him and go on a common ground, cousin to cousin. And remember, god will also help him quit if he wants to. We all need a listening and leaning post to help quit addictions.
Hope that helps.

God bless. Richard.

You could always use shock tactics to get him to quit, and show him what really happens to you're insides when you smoke. It really is not pretty. But be wary, some can be a bit desterbed by this up front approach but it's one of the best ways to get someone to quit. The pictures are really terrifying.
