• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

my child is so advanced.....

Don't worry. :) Like Crofter said, by 4 she'll be throwing teenage-like temper tantrums and experiencing mood swings that will make your head spin. You think it's a joke....just wait. ;)

you guys are no support at all for a tired old man trying to be a daddy for the first time. I'm making arrangements now for the teenage years. When they hit, one of us--her or me is getting locked in the basement! (JK)

There is always the option of a tall stone tower surrounded by a snake infested pit. Unfortunately, my wife will not buy into that idea for our daughter. ^_^

Actually, my daughter was advanced too. Her vocabulary at age 2 was astounding! And the "terrible twos" came early as well. Age 4 was a dream though. Unfortunately, no one told me the terrible twos return every 10 years!!!! (she's 12 now, and if she's lucky she will make 13 :p )
Hang in there Herev and enjoy the years before the trials of the teen years. BTW--a good remedy for a temper tantrum is laughter. Being laughed at is NOT what the child had in mind as a response and will often end the tantrum .

@Celticflower

I know that was directed at Herev, but thank you for the tip. I will have try that the next time Cassie decides to "voice" her humble opinion.

@Herev

Has your little one started with the "Uh-ohs?" I know Cassie has a little game where she'll push a water filled toy or the edge or lob her sippy cup across the table. But before you can react, in an innocent face and voice, she looks at us and says, "Uh.. .ohhh." It is really difficult not to bust up laughing when she does that. ^_^

Kokopelli---My daughter's favorite thing was when she got caught doing something she knew she wasn't supposed to, she'd look up at me with those big blue eyes and say "I wuv you Mom". Like that was gonna make everything ok.:D
My response was always, "I love you too, but you are still in trouble" . then I'd have to turn away so I wouldn't laugh at the wrong time ^_^ .

Celtie-- when she's fussing, I try and have a conversation with her. Sometimes it lightens the mood and helps me from getting too frustrated with after having bad day. I will usually say things like, "Yes, I know it's a free country. But untill you are old enough to vote, daddy has the power to veto anything you do." What I fear, and sort of look forward, is being able to use lines like: "just because the dinosaurs were around when daddy was your age does not mean he never tried your little stunts..." ^_^

Oh, yes, the other day, i was trying to get her to eat something she didn't care for. She actually looked at me and strained as if going to the bathroom. Then she proudly said, "poopy daddy." I picked her up and took her to her bedroom, opened her diaper to find nothing there. Then she said, UH OH. I didn't teach her that, but I'm too scared to slap her momma;)

Thanks, we usually just ignore her, but that'll work, too

I don't get why they don't like snakes. I mean, what other animal can look at you with beady eyes while sticking it's tongue out at you?? Not like it's a big ugly spider looking at you with multiple beady eyes, waiting for you to get your guard down so it can jump on you and... wait, I am not fearful of spiders... ^_^

and I am already dreading the teenage years.
Oh, pleae don't dread the teen years! They can be so wonderful! What your kids will be like as teens has much to do with how you raise them now, when they are 2. (For the record, I found 2 delightful! It was 3 that almost put me 'round the bend! :D ) When kids become teens you can really have conversations with them! They really begin to come into their own and you begin to get a look at what they are going to be like as adults. Interaction with them can be about ideas and values.

My remarks are not just addressed to you, by any means. I know many parents share your feelings. Each age has its challenges and rewards. Some of us prefer one stage to another, but they can all be wonderful. Please don't start bemoaning teens already! They will need your love very much when they get there!

I think the hardest part of the "teen years" is knowing how much freedom to give them without letting them walk all over you. Hopefully my wife and I are raising her with the values and beliefs we closely hold too. I plan on encouraging her participation within the youth group as I feel it will help show her she can have fun without partaking in sinful activities.

I'm actually looking forward to the teenage years!

Finally....he can mow the lawn, get a job to buy his own clothes, clean the bathroom, vacuum the carpets, wash the cars, and I can finally watch a whole game on TV without interruption....it'll be just dandy! It's just a matter of perspective folks.... :pray:

Note: you know I'm being partly facetious. :blush:
