  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Setting the Bible aside for a thread, and using military science alone, how would you orchestrate moving a group of 603,550 travelers from the desert, up into Canaan and making it your home?

Keep in mind that Canaan was:

  1. Protected by two superfortresses: Jericho and Ai.
  2. Had a secondary defense comprised of giants (Amalekites).
  3. Had walled cities.
  4. Had elite mountain fighters (Hittites, Jebusites, Amorites).
  5. Had elite coastal warriors (Canaanites).
  6. Had economic ties and rapport with surrounding countries.
You're the general --- show me what you got.

Well, if they've got giants...

I'd get start off by calling in the Thunderhawks for air support, once they'd softened them up a bit, I'd send in the combat squads, the Land Speeders and the Assault Marines on multiple hit and run skirmishes, to further soften them up, in particular using the Assault Marine's melta grenades to break through the walls., allowing for the rest of my army to break through much easier.

All the while, having Devastator Marines, Land Raiders and Whirlwinds laying down support fire and further weakening their fortifications, assuming I couldn't get the Imperial Guard to fill that role.

Finally, I'll send all in my tactical squads mounted in Land Raider Crusaders and my Combat Squads mounted in Razorbacks in, along with my Terminators and my Hellfire Dreadnoughts for an all out attack. Hopefully, by then, the previous assault would've left gaping holes in the fortifications, and the artillery would've pounded most of them to smithereens.

In case things got hectic, I'd have a Librarian at hand, to launch psyker spells at the enemy. Nothing says "WIN!" like teleporting your enemy directly into the Warp.

If, for whatever reason it looked like a victory was impossible, I'd just radio in over the vox to the nearest Mars Class Battle Cruiser and call for orbital bombardment.

If they can have giants, why the smeg can't I have Space Marines?

Setting the bible aside, as stipulated by AV1611VET, the conquest of Canaan by the Israelites never happened. The rural Canaanites became urban Israelites, and after the conquest of Northern Israel the southern Israelites became Jews.

This would be entirely impossible. Unless of course Thor did it.

1. jericho and ai were not super-fortresses, they were not even villages at that time
2. amalekites were not giants.
3. very few of the cites were walled
4. elite in what way?
5.see number 4
6. what does that have to do with anything?

who's to say there were 600k people to move? i highly doubt 600k people would survive that long in the desert.

but this is irrelevant when you get the story from the bible, moving 600k people would be impossible to move outside a book that ignores reality and logistics.
hey AV is this nothing but mental masturbation? because you know full well that your conditions from the start are impossible, why not lay all the cards on the table and say "god did it" since that's the only thing you got.

the fact is i doubt the hebrews would have 600k people anyway, that still is a lot of people now.

then its all over and you can say BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD, SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!

Begin Nitpick
1. jericho and ai were not super-fortresses, they were not even villages at that time
Jericho (the first city by that name) was founded circa 9000 bc.
By 1700 bc, Jericho had walls that had been strengthened over the years.
"Super fortresses"? Possibly for their time (just guessing here)
very few of the cites were walled
But by 1700 bc, Jericho was
who's to say there were 600k people to move? i highly doubt 600k people would survive that long in the desert.
And here's the nitpick that pains me to make the most :(
The OP says 600k people.
Consider it a fictional proposal if you will (the entire OP).
(I know, I know, it's hard for me to do so as well).
But consider it a "hypothetical" and then address the issues brought up in the OP.

End Nitpick
why not lay all the cards on the table and say "god did it" since that's the only thing you got.
And that is, obviously, the thinly obfuscated reason for the "challenge".

But hey, if we all look at the OP as a fictional "what if" scenario, then it doesn't matter does it? (after all the Bible is to remain OUT of this discussion, right?)

So let's assume that there is absolutely NO documentation of ANY kind that would back up the OP. Let's pretend it's purely a fictional "what if" hypothetical that has no basis in any religious text whatsoever. :D

I thought Titans might be a bit overkill. They could easily flatten Canaan in a single step.

You're forgetting one thing about the Imperium, though.

Virtually anything Chaos can throw at the Imperium, the Imperium can send straight back to the Eye, with its tail between its legs. ;)

'Sides, Necrons own all. Destroy 'em and they just stand right back up, then their standard gauss rifles can tear apart most armoured vehicles.
