• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Ever since I was young, I was always interested in pop music. Particularly Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, etc.(not Madonna, I have good taste) The very feminine and sexualized pop music was my favorite, and I believe that's what caused me to believe I was homosexual. When I was in my late teens, I became dependent on artists like Lady Gaga and Katy Perry to survive. I simply couldn't survive without it. Now, in 2015 I am still obsessed with it. I cannot live a good christian life without it. Please reply with what you think about this and any tips to try to get away from pop music.

Hey : )

I can relate a lot to where you're coming from. Back in 2012 and most years prior to that, I listened to a lot of rap. This is not to say that rap as a genre is bad. But I listened to mainstream rap [as opposed to select Christian rap], lots of promiscuous songs, and a lots of mainstream music. Not all mainstream music is bad though. But in my case.. these types of songs were planting some really bad seeds in my heart, mind, and even in my life. Whatever I would listen to would eventually seep out into my life- like my attitude would be influenced, how I dealt with stress and situations would be influenced..how I looked at other people would be influenced.. how I THOUGHT about things in general would be influenced.

And so.. as I spent more time with the Lord and just seeking Him nearly every day, I felt the Holy Spirit begin to convict me of certain songs, just as the Holy Spirit is convicting you of this issue as evidenced by you feeling compelled to make this thread.
As the convictions grew stronger and prolonged.. I was eventually weaned off from those types of music and was led to this..amazing radio station that I can't even recommend enough.

It's called K-Love and you can listen online through this link: http://www.klove.com/listen/player.aspx
HIGHLY recommend it. And just having it in the background while I browse around the net really sets my mind on Him and encourages and uplifts me in Him like NO OTHER mainstream artist ever could. That's not to say that the Bible itself cannot encourage and uplift me just the same : )

Will you join me in praying?
Holy Father..
I pray for the person behind the username 'ChristianAgain' on Christianforums.com. I pray that You will continue convicting them of this issue in regards to the songs they listen to. Please help wean them off gradually and lead them to Christian songs that they will like and songs with messages that will encourage them and uplift them in Jesus Christ. Please also help them in their walk with You by guiding, encouraging, protecting, and instilling your peace, comfort, and love in their heart and mind.

Thank You in advance. In the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, we ask these things..Amen.
