  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

My GF and I were out for breakfast after church Sunday and got to talking about our limitations musically. After a bit I made this statement to her. As far as I know its original with me.

Be as comfortable with our limitations as we are with our strengths.

Hope it encourages you

Hmmm, not quite sure exactly how you meant it, but if you mean we should be who we are and be comfortable with who we are, then yeah I agree with you. Especially if you are talking about being used by God. None of the people that God used were, by any stretch of the imagination, perfect. They all had problems and alot of them complained and didn't want to do what God wanted them to because of some limitation. God doesn't want us to be perfect in our own strength. HE wants to be the one that takes the glory and the credit for any actions we do for Him IMO. The glory of our beings, whether they limit us or strengthen us, is for the Lord's pleasure.

One of my observations is I've told people that I have very little music ability. I get a comment something like don't say that, "I'm sure you have musical ability." Well, gee, I'm comfortable talking about and admitting my limitations. But I've observed others are not comfortable with me saying I have that limitation.

Hmmm, that's too bad. Maybe they think by stating that fact about yourself, that you wish you DID have musical ability and so they are then trying to encourage you?? It could happen, just sayin'.
I guess it would depend on the situation in which you decided to mention that particular limitation. Was it in general convo or was everybody else stating their limitations as well. Context does make a difference too.

Hi MbM,
Well, its taken me a while to get back .. my computer died and I went on vacation for a week.
I got a new Dell desktop running Lenix ... not more windows for me, I'm tired of all the problems I had with that OS.

Yes, I think they were trying to encourage me. The old you can do anything you set your mind to view of life. Well, I can do a lot of things, but I can't do everything. I can do some things well, most I do good and some a don't even try anymore. I'm comfortable with that.

Blessings,
dayhiker

Hey it's all about being comfortable in your own skin IMO. If you really are, then you shouldn't be bothered by people trying to encourage you in something you are no longer interested in pursuing. JMHO of course. Anyway, glad you got a new computer. My son's have Dells and I really like them (but they have Windows). Anyway, bottom line is we shouldn't sweat the small stuff (like being musical).
