  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I just had this question pop into my head a few days ago, so I'd like to hear from ya'll about it. Do you think it that it would be wise for singles who are trying to stay content being single to avoid listening to certain kinds of music that are about, er, non-singleness?

For example, I love songs like Katrina Elam's "No End in Sight," Randy Travis's "Forever and Ever, Amen," Phil Vassar's "That's When I Love You," Keith Urban's "Somebody Like You," or Shania Twain's "Know You That Good." These are all great songs, IMO, but sometimes I wonder if they might cause me to desire things I'm not ready for. I'm having a hard time trying to write this question, so hopefully it's clear.

Any ideas?

I am a music eclectic so I love all types of music. The words don't bother me, except when they offend me in some way. Of course, the inspirational ones are the best. :)

But, if you find a song that depresses you, or puts you in a bad mood, don't listen to it. Music is a wonderful thing. And it can bring out all kinds of emotions in people. I jusually turn to another station when a song comes up that I don't like. You might want to try that.

Man, I got depressed just reading the titles! From my perspective, if I were to listen to country music all te time I wuold have to be HEAVILY medicated.
It is all in personall preferance though. If that is the music you enjoy, try to listen to some of the more upbeat country songs (I have no Idea what some of them would be, but I am sure there are some)

I think I may be the ONLY person left that listens to them, but Avalon is very uplifting to me and takes my focus off of my non-existent dating life. :) I do try to surround myself with only positive and encouraging music with keeps me encouraged - and not only concerning dating, but just concerning LIFE period.

I am a music NUT! ...and I work part time at a radio station that plays a mix of 60's through 80's music. When I work I tend not to play the slow mushy stuff simply because I don't want to hear it. I agree with a previous post that said to go with what God is telling you. Definitely DON'T listen to it if it makes you depressed. Music is supposed to be enjoyed and celebrated in my opinion. If a song depresses me...er....it's time to change the channel (or skip that track on the disk! lol)

Oddly enough I was thinking the other day about musicians who have remained single. (secular) Weird Al Yankovic and Bryan Adams came to mind. If they have all that money and fame and whatever and THEY aren't married then its okay for us common folks to be single. :)
