I was wondering if people could please give me some recommendations of music that is useful for prayer, or which provokes a good atmosphere for praising God/getting to know God.
I am open to good worship music, but I would prefer to have a wider variety that includes non-Christian music (not anti-Christian, mind!).
Here are some recommendations from myself! I hope that these will inspire someone, but also act as a guide for recommendations:
Jeff Buckley tends to be good as far as vocal artists go. Songs like Hallelujah and Corpus Christi Carol (for obvious reasons) seem to be a nice supplement to prayer, if I feel like a way of praising God that's slightly less traditional! See here:YouTube - Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah with lyrics
Earth are an American drone band who I have found are good for general contemplation, but also prayer, as there are no vocals to distract. See here: YouTube - Earth- An Inquest Concerning Teeth
Clarelynn Rose is a self-proclaimed 'Acoustic Zen-Buddhist guitarist'. I think that her music is some of the most peaceful and natural that I have ever heard, and though she writes her music from a Buddhist perspective, I think it's wonderful for any form of meditative contemplation, and prayer. See 'Redwood Sidthe' and 'Sunshower' here: Clarelynn Rose on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads
So these are some ideas, happy listening, and I look forward to recommendations!
